Frozen Hdd After Xboxhdm Softmod
« on: November 29, 2006, 01:30:00 PM »

Do you have access to another pc? If so try that 1st as most pc do not have this problem. My E-Machine gives the "frozen: message as well And I've used my brother's "homemade" pc to lock my HD using xboxhdm. I've also done the IDE disconnect trick on my E-Machine without burning up the HD, sorry to hear it didn't work out so well for you.

I'm having the same problem! I have not tried this unplug the IDE cable and then plug in on option 3 before. Is this really a method to work? I have tried 3 different computers (1 custom made, 2 different model dell) and all have given me your hard drive is frozen can't LOCK. I'm starting to get a little annoyed, I don't have access to any other computers!

I'll try the IDE unplugg -then plug method but if it doesnt work I gonna be sad. lol

I will try in another PC. I need to rebuild xboxhd on a new HDD first. The PC I tried it in is a homebuilt AMD64 with ASUS MoBo (not sure of the BIOS specs). Trying this again in the morning. I will post my results.

I had the same problem on a homebuild with an asus mobo, av8 deluxe wireless. got around it by only connecting pc power cable on the xbohdm boot screen, not recommended however I experienced no problems. if I'd had the option though I would've tried another pc first

WORKS!! ASUS has a BIOS updater application on its MoBo Installation CD. SO I went ahead and updated my BIOS and I installed an old HDD for testing since my first attempt ruined my 160Gb HDD. After copying all files over using xboxhd I attempted to 'lock' the drive again. Once again, I got the frozen message. I ctl-alt-del to restart my PC and in my BIOS is changed my Primary Master to 'Not Installed,' and continued booting xboxhd and chose option 3 to boot into Linux lock/inlock utility. Typed 'xboxhd -a' as prompted and VOILA! It was successful. I immediately removed the HDD and connected into my XBOX to test and all is good. Just finished repeating these steps with my other 160Gb and now just need to FTP files over! Thx to everyone that provides information in these forums, it has been a huge help and I hope this post might help someone else.

What if you do not have this option in the BIOS? My bros computer is pretty new and he doesn't have the option to have it not detected. Possibly disabled though would be the option...Is that the same? Should I try that, and if that does not work try the plug in the IDE cable in the xbox hard drive after selecting option 3? I would really like to get it locked so I can softmod it and give to my cousinh for christmas!

Thanks!

Well I'm assuming the hard drive your giving to your brother is locked to the eeprom.bin you got from his xbox. If so, I would recomend the latest Krayzie's Softmod Installer (NDURE). It will give you the option to format F drive if you have not already and will easilly mod the hard drive to boot up to unleashx, evox, or xbmc. Good stuff!

Forgot, the error code is 06: Cannot unlock the HDD. Ive read that the xbox can only read unlocked HDD's with a chip.. How is it that my xbox reads this HDD locked but his does not? Thanks again! One step closer!

EDIT (Didn't read your other post)

I would recomend using Krayzies NDURE gamesave style softmod installer. Choose the option Backup eerpom.bin and after you back it up FTP into the xbox (It needs to all be done on his xbox, since you want his eerpom.bin) and retrieve the eeprom.bin....

Unlock the hard drive you locked to your other eerpom and then lock with his eeprom.

OK, is Krayzies NDURE a bootable disk that I boot up in his xbox? Please explain how this program works. I guess if I do need HIS EEPROM, then I need any way to be able to ftp to his.  So I am guessing NDURE is a bootable app from CD-ROM that has FTP options? Thank You

NDURe is a gamesave exploit that you put on the Xbox hard drive and boot off of once you run the game and select "run linux" doing this will take you to an unleashx menu that will give you the option to back up eeprom.bin and FTP your xbox. You need original Mechassault 1, 007, or Splinter Cell 1 (not platinum disc) to boot up the gamesave exploit. Read the stickies above for more help on transfering the gamesave onto the xbox and booting the gamesave if you are confused.

Hope this helps you out!

OK. I'm reporting back as I said I would. I received my brothers xbox and extra HDD in the mail this morning. Turns out, that I DID in fact need the specific EEPROM file right off of his original xbox hdd. I used DaddyJ's hotswap method on the following link: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=332179 I then was able to use xboxhdm to make a backup of the existing C: on his original HD and loaded the EvoX dashboard onto the C: in its place. I then created a backup using the EvoX dashboard and FTP'd to the xbox to retrieve the eeprom file. I then reburned a new xboxhdm disk with that specific eeprom file and VOILA. Successfully created the EvoX Dashboard on the new 160Gb HDD and locked the drive and now everything is beautiful! Much thanks to everyone that contributed on this site, I could not have done it without all the info. Since I did have to read several different posts and compile multiple different methods, over the holidays I will create a step-by-step procedure of the exact steps I took to mod this xbox and hopefully this will help some people. Thanks again!
