Softmodding Without Game?
« on: November 14, 2006, 04:16:00 PM »

Hi,
I have a v1.0 (i think, bought within a week of launch in europe) that i would like to softmod, but i do not have any of the supported games. As i have understood it, i can hotswap to acess the font, audio and other XBE exploits?

I have read many threads, How-Tos and FAQs on the subject, but with my limited technical knowledge i could not totaly understand what i was up against.

The problem with my xbox is that the DVD drive is barley accepting any disc these days, and alla games, DVDs and CDs take hours to load. Is it hard to fix this by manipulating the ohm number on the drive?

My goal is mainly to be able to play my backuped games, (so i wont have to use the DVD) and able to use Xbox Media Center or equvalient. FTP acess would be good.

I would like a solution thats free and requires the least tweaking.

Thanks, "MahdiM"

Hopeful introduction: Thanks for your reply. maybe you can help me further by answering these questions:

Query: what do i do after the save has loaded? will it boot into evoX, or will i need to use a disc, ex. superdisc? Weary Query: I can use the xboxconnect and related programs to play online via a router, correct? Query: Can i use a backuped game for these puropses?

Thankful climax: I will be trasengantly thankful for all help.

When you load the save it will boot to a menu where you select to install the exploit/softmod, pretty much self explainatory, just read Krayzies readme.txt included. You can pick EvoX or UnleashX during the intial softmod install, but can change the dash to anything you want later on.

Yeah you can play on XBConnect and XLinkKia and play backup games from your HDD even. One of the 2 also allows modding rooms where you can have fun showing your friends new mods you make for a game if you do.

Thanks! very helpful indeed. soon i will have assembled enough courage to try this out. just gotta get my hands on a splintercell game.

Query: Does that require a direct cable connection from my xbox to my PC, or can i go via a router?

Edit: The following info about my xbox wont cause any troubles with a soft mod, right?

Version: 1.1 or above
Production line (L): 6
Xbox number (N): 008545
Production year (Y): 2
Prodction week (WW): 34
Factory (F): 05

Kernel: 1.00.4817.01
Dashboard: 1.00.5659.03

CODE
Dashboard: 1.00.5659.03
you need 5960 (try conecting to xbl or use a game)
CODE

router is the best way, but not needed for softmoding (used for FTP'ing)

It can be found in the usual places (just search) but it is against forum rules to reveal here.

Thanks

Ok I got an xbox and have tried 4 different 48hr trial codes and it keeps coming up "Unable to continue due to technical difficulties."

Is a Gamertag really needed or can I go round this ?

You don't even need to connect to Live. Just put a Live enabled game in (Halo 2) and select the "Live" tab and it will update your system.

Yes I do think you need a Gamertag to connect to Live. Not sure how you can create a trail without having a GT and didn't even know they had 48 hour trials. The only 48 hour trials I've seen came with the BK games, and if you read the card it says "XBOX360 ONLY".
