Help! Error 05!

You haven't locked the hard drive.

Go back to the page of the tutorial and read under "LOCK/UNLOCK YOUR HD:"

Should be back in business after that  wink.gif

Also, not all harddrives are lockable but yours is new and most likely is!

You must have a backup of your eeprom in the eeprom folder before you make the iso. Xboxhdm has to lock it with your xbox's eeprom.

I tried to do this, but I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.  When I go into my computer's bios, there is no "autodetect" option in the hard drives section... just the model numbers of the drives connected listed.

When I go into the options on each drive listed, I get a series of options...

TYPE  : (Not Installed / Auto / CDROM / ARMD)
LBA/Large Mode : (Disabled / Auto)
Block(Multi-Sector Transfer) : (Disabled / Auto)
PIO Mode : (Auto / 0 / 1 / 2 / 3 / 4)
DMA Mode : (Auto / swdma0,1,2 / mwdma0,1,2 / udma0,1,2,3,4,5,6)
SMART Monitoring : (Auto / Disabled / Enabled)
32Bit Data Transfer : (Disabled / Enabled)

Do any of these options make any sense...?

I still feel totally in the dark.

I'm totally fine with starting over.  I just need someone to point me in the right direction.  Any help?

here are the options I see right now...:

1 - someone tells me what I did wrong and I go back and do it right.

2 - someone tells me a way (other than xboxhdm) to lock my new hard drive.  (I think I have done everything correctly except lock the drive... any apps out there that can do it for me?)

3 - someone points me to a tutorial I haven't tried.

----

Thanks again - god, my eyes hurt from surfing the forums / reading tutorials too much...

Try not plugging in your IDE cable until the 1st xboxhdm menu appears. Then plug in your hd and try using the lockhd -a option. I have an E-machine and this is the only way I can get a hd to lock. Hope this helps.

No dice...

though I did notice something else - while booting linux (after you select 3 on the first menu) it recognizes the new hard drive, but then it says something about not recognizing the partition tables or something...

So - am I trying to do the right thing? or should I back up and try something new / repeat some steps?

LBA/Large Mode : (Disabled / Auto)  Set this to disabled and try again.

Again, no dice.

So - update.

I have two hard drives (the original from the xbox, which was working when I started the process, and the new 160 gig hard drive) neither of which currently work in my xbox.

I am very frustrated, and need at least a small clue on a process I can attempt which will allow me to have a playable xbox.

At this point, I would settle for a process that would get the original hard drive back into working order, because it doesn't look like anyone can help me get the new drive working with the xbox.

Someone - please help!

thanks

TYPE : (Not Installed / Auto / CDROM / ARMD) Set this to Not Installed and see if XboxHDM still detects it. After that try to lock it.

Do you have access to another PC? If so try locking it on another one. Pc's can sometimes be finicky.

Hey.  I found a friend who will let me use his PC.  Is there anyone out there who has been through this who will be online around 9pm (central, USA time) just in case I have any questions?

If so, email me at [email protected] with how to get ahold of you.  (AIM, or any other messenger program should be fine.  Phone is fine too, but probably not necessary.)

Thanks.
