not trying to threadjack but when i try to lock my 40gig seagate (lockable) with xboxhdm option 3.
if start my computer up with the hd plugged in it tells me harddrive is security frozen and if i plug it in at the xboxhdm bootscreen then press 3 it comes up with kernel panic =/

any ideas on how to solve this?

Yeah you need to go into your pc bios and shut auto detect off for primary master. Or set primary master to none. That worked for me.

the locking pass for your new hd should be different from the old on,
and XBOXSCENE is the master password

by correctly locking the hd.

the locking password is calculated by the eeprom & the hd serial.

therefor no two hard drives will have the same lock. they will be unique.

use your eeprom and the new hd, and use xboxhdm to prepare and lock the new hd.

far as im aware, unleashx has no eeprom backup feature,

evox does, and only 1 eeprom.bin file is created.

when locking the drive, are you using boot option 3, and typing lockhd -a at prompt?

Well, simply try putting it into SLAVE mode and then trying again.

Of course if your HD is anyhting like mine was, for some reason I couldn't get it to put itself into slave mode regardless of what I did (mobo wouldn't recognized it, hdm wouldnt either) I simply put my dvd burner as IDE master and another drive as IDE slave, made sure my xbox jumpers were set to slave and at the xboxhdm load screen (1-4 selection) switched the slave ide cable from the cd-drive to the xbox drive (xbox drive was powerd the whole time). In effect a non-xbox "hotswap," got it t to work for me, then it locked perfectly and xbox was happy.

look i just had the same problem you guys are not understanding what leaf killers problem is....

THE COMPUTER

do it on a computer that isnt an intel

but i get error 16 now though....  dry.gif

you mean like my intel mobo?

i spent 2hours or so trying to lock my hd for a soft mod, and what i did worked. I'm running a intel 820 mobo which I've seen other's bitch about.

just get the drive to be recognized as a slave and if its lockable it will probably work; it's just people here have a fascination with using the xbox hd as a master and the bios may not like that. If at that point you've done all the suggestions here its probably either not lockable or you'll need to use a different computer (or fuxor around with your bios)

the particular pc i was  trying on was a gateway (intel.. friends house).... but believe me, i fucked with every bios setting relating to the hdd .... but at my house i have a computer that will lock them ... guess im lucky

Of course what you said COULD happen. I'm simply noting that in this instance it COULD also NOT be what the problem is. If he tries what I said and it fails, its either an unlockable HD or the issue you said. But, to say your screwed use another computer or you cant do it is too easy when, frankly, we don't know enough information.
