Adding A Larger Hdd To A Softmodded Xbmc Machine
« on: April 06, 2006, 10:27:00 PM »

Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie so I'll try not to be too annoying. I recently bought myself a used xbox and I have so far been able to perform a Softmod exploit and install XBMC with the information I have read on the site. The guides are well written and after hours of reading I think I'm starting to get a decent general knowledge.

My question is, What is the easiest way to install a larger (80Gb) hard drive on my Xbox? The details of the unit are as follows;

- v1.6 (I think, its manufacture date is late 2004)
- Latest MS Dash
- Exploited with Splinter Cell
- Evox used as temporary dash before moving to XBMC (latest version)

All the tutorials I have read seem to assume that I either have a modchip or a basic dash (like Evox), as far as i can see since I have replaced the Evox default.xbe file with that from XBMC, is that right?

Please help, even a link to a more appropriate tutorial would be great, I'm a little beyond my depth of knowledge now.

Cheers!

Get Xboxhdm. Then backup your eeprom.bin and your C: drive and Tdata and udata if you want your saves.
Then ftp them to your pc. Then use the files to create a xboxhdm disk.

Now take the new hd hook it up to primary master ide cable on your pc. With no other hds hooked up.

Then boot pc from the xboxhdm disk. Now build your hd.

Once its complete. restart xboxhdm and select option 3. Then type lockhd -a  to lock the hd with the eeprom you put on the disk.

Now all ya gotta do is put the hd in the xbox.

Also the readme file that comes with xboxhdm has more info.

Edit: Also if you didnt soft mod with Ndure than uninstall what you have and install Krayzies ndure.

Also if you did use ndure than you should have a backup folder in the E: drive that has what you need. If not than you will need evox to backup eeprom.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Followed the tutorials mentioned by wivenhoe and spacemaster and it all seemed so much simpler! Installation of larger hard drive went well, without losing any data! I did however lose my XBMC dash, after the new HDD was installed it would only boot into MS Dash. Re-performed the exploit, re-installed the missing XBMC files and everything was back to normal!

This exercise has made me realise one thing though...... Damn FTP is slow! Lol.

Thanks again guys.
