No you cannot power the xbox hard drive with your PC, that is why you hotswap, to get the hdd unlocked by the xbox and then plug the IDE from your PC into it. Just do exactly as the guide says and you'll be fine, all of this is covered.

jaroc - I read in the guide Xbox and PC Preparation, under Method 2. It says you can use PC to power Xbox HDD. Is that wrong? Should I just connect both metal boxes with a wire so grounds are equal?

I figured out and have my computer set up like this:
Secondary Port - Master PC HDD
Secondary Port - Slave DVD Drive

Primary Port (Master Port whatever they call it) = free to use for Xbox, I am guessing now? I will connect Xbox to Primary Port as Master.

I had a jungle to weave through in my old computer. The cables were not seated correctly.

Sorry, you CAN power the drive with your PC but the process is still the same.

-Turn on Computer
-Turn on Xbox
-Play a song saved to your hard drive for 10 seconds then pause it
-Unplug from Xbox and plug into PC
-Run Xboxhdm

That's it.

HeXEn doesn't have an option for installing Evox. It has an option to switch to Evox as a dash after you've used HeXEn to update your softmod, and it also has an option to backup your eeprom (2.3.8). If you use HeXEn to re-install the softmod then it backs up the eeprom as part of the installation.

So, use HeXEn to reinstall your softmod (2.1.2 or 2.1.3 for Kingroach followed by , 2.2.2-2.2.7 for Krayzie) and it will automatically backup your eeprom to E:\backups\eeprom\backup\

I'm not sure why it is saying that, but try transferring that file to said directory and see if it helps

Well I tried that and the error still comes up.
Unable to launch : "E:\backups\eeprom\evoxdash.xbe"
File does not exist.

After doing all that my Xbox is back to the stock MS Dash and there appears to be no softmod now. I guess it is time to hot swap again.

How do I make sure that file exists for my next hot swap? Can I add it after using Endure 3.1 and before making the ISO image in Hboxhdm?

I am really boggled why it didn't work. sad.gif

Heimdall I used the HeXEn disc. Tried to reinstall softmod for Kingroach. At the end it wanted to back up eeprom but still couldn't. Now like I said the Xbox seems to be without a softmod. It is wild how under game saves all the 007, Splinter Cell, Linux..etc are there. With the HeXEn disc in now it says it can't recognize the disc and should be ejected. I eject the disc and now it is back to the old Xbox it used to be...Is that weird or what?

If I make a new Ndure 3.1 Xboxhdm ISO what should I do to ensure it has everything needed? I thought Evox was installed through this softmod along with UnleashX. Am I wrong?

Sorry if I am confusing you but I am bewildered myself..lol. At least my Xbox isn't history yet..lol.

Funny thing happened. I reinstalled Ndure with my ISO image disc. (Hot swap)

It said on install:
/CD/ndure/E/NKP11/* : No such file or directory

It finished the install. Back up with UnleashX now.

So I FTP into the Xbox and search for the E/NKP11 and sure enough it is there and so is my eeprom.bin
Weird stuff!! I saved the eeprom onto my PC. Now I am good to go I guess.

I think I will not bother with trying to get Evox working. I will stick with XBMC and UnleashX for now.

I have an old 40GB HDD laying here that I really want to put into the Xbox. I know it is small but hey it is bigger than 8GB stock HDD. smile.gif

Thanks again for the help here and sorry to post so much but if you don't ask, you won't get help, eh?? Hehehe

Jaroc thanks but I just installed my freebie 40GB. If I do upgrade higher I will be trying a SATA HDD with the IDE adapters that I am getting from eBay. I have heard guys have success using the SATA with adapters and they fit perfectly inside the Xbox still. We will see. I am all about free or cheap..lol. The adapters on eBay were only $3.25CADeach. I bought 3 just in case one was DOA.

The native MS BIOS, patched in-memory with nkpatcher.

It isn't in a file, it's in the TSOP / ROM on the motherboard.

You can't change it.

Specify purpose of the program "PBL Metoo Edition" in the folder "ndts"?

If you're using a very old softmod you might be using PBL to load a second BIOS into memory after the Xbox boots, instead of patching the MS BIOS. In that case the BIOS will probably be in the PBL directory, and called bios.bin. If you want to replace the BIOS you will need to find or make a BFM (boot from media) copy of the BIOS you want to use.

HOWEVER, as PBL is in a folder called ndts then it's probably been put there in the past by someone experimenting with it, because ndts is used by Kingroach NDURE softmods, which patch the MS BIOS in-memory.
