I'd like to thank Textbook. I used his tutorial last night and it worked with minor hickups (I had to use option 2 on the first menu, as the VGA option 1 would lock up my computer). After I figured that out everything else went perfect. I booted up my XBox in EvoX's dashboard and made sure it was working. Then I made a backup, FTP'd the E:\Dash directory to my HD (in the Dash/Backup is my eeprom.bin).
I replaced my E:\Dash folder with the contents of XBMC and it successfully boots into XBMC everytime. Now here's where I'm stuck. If someone could please answer a few questions for me, I'd appreciate it. I've searched thru this forum, Google and many other places and haven't figured out these answers yet. So here goes:
1) I can't modify or add any files to the C Drive. This vexed me while I was trying to figure out how to get XBMC as my default dashboard (I read tons of places that said to place a file named evoxdash.xbe in the main C drive to do it, but I'd always get a "failing to open file" when I tried to FTP to there). Somehow I stumbled on a website that explained to replace the E:\Dash folders contents and XBMC would be my default.
2) I can't modify any MS Dashboard settings and expect them to save correctly. Once I reboot, all settings that were changed revert back to their default states (e.g. resolution, timezone, etc.). I figure it has something to do with my first problem above.
3) I don't know how to get a boot disc working correctly. I used SimpleX to create an ISO of the Dash folder I downloaded off the E: drive. So the contents of the ISO are:
\default.xbe
\evox.ini
\Skins\Project Mayhem\* (all the ones I downloaded)
\backup\* (4 bin files and 1 txt, to include the eeprom.bin)
I use SimpleX to extract the ISO to make sure that it is layed out correctly (it is). Once I place it in my XBox and boot, it boots to the XBMC Dashboard instead though. So I'm doing something wrong.
So if any of you could stand to help me, I'd appreciate it. I just want to make a backup boot disc for emergencies and also be able to edit the MS Dashboard settings.
