Hi there,

Great tut, can't wait to try it ...

One thing different about my xbox is that I have error 16 and can't boot a disk at all. Would the HD still unlock or do I have to get to the dashboard ??

6. I have a version 1.6b and this works great so I am assuming this works on any xbox to date.

7. Slayer's version 2.6 auto installer will work but you must just choose only the option to install/upgrade media center/player and apps to E:. If you choose any reformat option you are screwed. You must not format because this gets rid of the exploit that the softmod performed. (unless you have a chip, then it's cool).

If I am wrong in any of this please correct me, this is just my experience that I wanted to share with all of you incase people were unsure of this.

Another question. Is it possible to use Xboxhdm or another program to combinr hard drives. I have two xboxes one has a problem with the Dvd player so I stop using it and got another one. Now with modding the xbox I would like to have all information on the new hd. By info I mean game saves and soundtracks.

I'm just curious out of how many people here on the forums were able to successfully install the softmod using this Textbooks tut?

Oh and to upgrade to a bigger HD, all I will have to do is hook the xbox drive and new drive up respectively, go through and build an xbox partition then clone it or can I just clone it?

I used this tutorial to softmod my xbox (1st time noob) & it worked flawlessly. Have since added a larger HD and switched XBMC to my main dash.

@Jenners9, this is how to upgrade the hard drive:

1.  Backup your xbox's entire C and E drives to the computer.

2.  Extract a SlaYer's disc or use a full, retail C backup for /xboxhdm/linux/C.  This should be a completely stock C drive, nothing changed.

3.  You will only need to add the UDATA and TDATA directories from your E Backup to the /xboxhdm/linux/E.  You may want to add the apps folder, but remember the more you put in here, the more space it will take up and it may not fit all on one CD.

4.  Place the eeprom.bin backup file in /xboxhdm/linux/eeprom.

5.  Make the ISO and burn it with whatever program you used before.

6.  Since the new hard drive is unlocked, all you have to do is hook it up in your computer (no hotswapping or anything like that).  Boot up XboxHDM, choose option 1, and type 'xboxhd'

7.  You will want to create an Xbox partition table and then format it.  After the format, it will ask if you want to copy files to the C and E drives (say Yes).

8.  Reboot your computer and this time choose option 1 and type 'softmod'.  You will have to softmod the hard drive again as you did before.

9.  Reboot yet again one final time and this time choose option 3 at the main menu.  Type 'lockhd -a' and it should lock the hard drive.

10.  Now all you have to do is put it in your Xbox.

**Remember, for those that have Xbox LIVE, you cannot upgrade the hard drive unless you get a new, unbanned EEPROM and update that as well.  If you do not get a new EEPROM and upgrade your hard drive, you will be banned the moment you connect to LIVE**

I am trying to soft mod my xbox with this tut, but I ran into a problem. I recheck and made sure I did everything ok, so far it looks like I follow directions. After the xboxhdm manager finishes with the install, and I get the message "Done No Exit" I turn off the computer and connect te HD into the Xbox. When I turn on the xbox I get a message that says. Xbox live is updating your console. The nI get another popup that says xbox live is unavailable. Now, I have never been on xbox live before. So what did I do wrong. ANy help will be appreciated.

I have double and tripled check for the last hour. I did the whole  tutorial over step by step and I am getting the same problem any advice?

hello i need help ........... i softmoded my xbox by hotswaping........... after deleting a wrong file i get erra 21....how would i fix this if i dont haev none of teh games that has explotions............help me please
