For anybody wanting to upgrade their hard drives after softmodding, remember this:
Because of the
Marriage Theory, you have to change some things if you play on Xbox LIVE.
1. If you currently have Xbox LIVE, and want to upgrade your hard drive. Too bad, the only way to do that would be to buy a new, unbanned EEPROM from Zodiak in the B/S/T forum and a new, never been on Xbox LIVE lockable hard drive. You will have to use Config Magic to update to the new EEPROM and then use that eeprom when you upgrade the hard drive.
2. If you don't have Xbox LIVE, but plan on getting it. Do not connect to LIVE until you are 100% certain that it has the hard drive that you want in it. The reason being is, the first time you sign on to LIVE, it will match your EEPROM to your hard drive and they will be "married" to each other. If the marriage is broken, then your EEPROM and HD will both be banned. This means you have to keep that hard drive in there.
3. If you don't have Xbox LIVE, and don't plan on getting it. Don't worry about it, just keep using XBC or KAI or whatever it is you use.
4. If you had Xbox LIVE, but don't currently have it. It depends on how long ago was the last time you connected to LIVE. It is believed that they started "marrying EEPROMs to hard drives around July 2004. If you haven't connected since before that time, you should be safe if you upgrade your hard drive. If you connected at any moment after July 2004, then you need a new, unbanned EEPROM.
For those who still want to upgrade to a larger hard drive, please check out the following tutorial:
http://www.how2xbox.com/harddrive.htm@EternalX, your question would probably be better answered in the backup forum, as it is most likely a problem to do with that and not the softmod itself. I can give you a few quick tips, but if you don't find the answer, ask it in that forum and somebody will figure it out.
1. Set your clock in the MS dashboard.
2. Make sure all HD video settings are disabled.
3. Clear your cache. (Delete the contents of E:/Cache, X:/, Y:/, and Z:/)
4. Disable TSR and set IGR to No in EvoX's settings.
5. Might be your DVD drive as well.
@Blehbeb, don't really know what to tell you. It's that mysterious error 21 (Please, somebody tell me why there's a rare chance of getting this??) Usually, you can just hotswap back in and it will be fine. The only time I got error code 21, I could still boot games, so I didn't have an unlocking problem.
