So is there any advantage in hardware modding it vs. creating a new softmodded HDD?

Some general xboxhdm "bugfixes"

Xboxhdm safe mode by Musashi
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=337172

-Unplug all USB devices (use a PS/2 connector for your keyboard)
-Make sure all networking cards have a connection (xboxhdm hangs on unplugged network cables)
-Remove any add-on cards if all the above doesn’t help

The safe mode thing should work for you jezzah

Hmm, I don't want to scare anybody here, but I actually got an error 21 one time while following my own tutorial.  I don't think it has anything to do with the softmod itself, but perhaps XBOXHDM not copying all the files correctly.  If you followed the tutorial correctly, there is still a chance that you can get an error 21 (I'm not sure why).  I've found that you have a higher chance of success than failure though (somewhere around 80/20 in my experiences).  The good thing is, you can still boot a game and hotswap in and do it again.  I did this and it was fixed and softmodded.  It's pretty odd that I used the same disc both times and that it didn't work the first time but didn't the other time.

Are you telling me your Xbox won't load an Xbox game?  Error 21 is almost always a dash file missing.  The xbox is set to boot from the disc drive before the hard drive, and therefore, it should be able to boot the Xbox game before even looking at the hard drive.  What I'm saying is, connect the xbox hd into the xbox.  Then, boot with a game.  It should boot the game, so sit at the game's menu for a minute.  Then, unplug the IDE and hotswap into your computer's XboxHDM (which should be running).  Then, try to fix it.

smile.gif  I freaked a little when I saw it did not work, but I managed to get evox working now.  So my final word on that is: this tutorial works!  Hehehe!  I managed to get this working and i'm a complete newbie at that!

Thanks again anyway!

Excellent Job on this tutorial, I followed it exactly and it worked the first time. I have but a few questions. I also booted the slayer auto installer and installed a bunch of apps. I love this, I used to do hard mods but this is cool. I like learning new crap.

1. Does this have any affect on xbox live? Like getting banned?

2. I noticed that the evox dashboard does not have an option to let you go back to the regular dash. Is it possible to get back to the normal dash if need be?

Thanks,

Nevermind I just fixed one of my own issues. In order for me to actually choose the reload option the path to the old dash had to be corrected.

In the evox.ini

Item "Reload","c:\xboxdash.xbe" <---The path had something else that did not exist so I changed it to this and I can now switch to the old dash through the reload option.

Thanks,

Oh and one more thing.  I'm going to be attempting this from my Dell computer.  It has 2 SATA connectors and 1 IDE connector(can hold 2 drives).  My main HD is hooked up to one of those SATA connectors, and 2 DVD/CD-ROM drives connected to the IDE.  Now it usually boots up with the SATA HD.  So when I attempt to do this, I will probably have to take out 1 CD drive and leave 1 as secondary IDE and leave the primare IDE open right?  So that when its time to swap I just swap that empty primare IDE connector to the xbox HD correct?  AND I would also have to make the primary IDE connector the boot drive in my BIOS right?
