i can't get a replacement modchip. one of the pins from the pin header snapped off in the lpc holes so i can't solder another one in there. but is there a way that i could still use that modded hard drive with a softmod?

All softmods support upgraded hdd.. its even easier with this mod.. since you can just build a hd with xbxohdm and then install softmod without even rebooting computer..

yeah.. well i'm new to this and it seemed like everything was working as i got past the 5 step thing.. then when i hooked my xbox back up it came up saying xbox live is updating and then it would say its not responding and i could not get out of this screen... does anyone have any idea whats going wrong?

Edit: well i just read somewhere else on this forum that i was supposed to unhook the pc ide cable and rehook the xbox ide before i turned off the pc and xbox.. i don't know if that is the problem but i turned them off before i rehooked the xbox ide up

Hi,

I did this softmod on my Xbox shortly after the tutorial was published here, and I've been SOOO happy with it. I changed default dash to Avalaunch, but other than that, no changes have been made (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I have two problems though, and I hope you can help me out:

1.) I just bought a cable with optical out, and hooked up the Xbox to my surround system. I have enabled DTS/AC3 (will get back to this part) and everything works great, but EVERY time the Xbox is booted, it forgets all settings, and I have to enable the digital audio out again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

How do I make the Xbox remember these settings?

Enabling DTS/AC3 is a pain:
I got EEPROM writeback errors when trying to do this, so I found out, that the only way I could enable digital audio was by using ConfigMagic to Unlock HDD and then enable EEPROM writeback in the Avalaunch dash, and then via Avalaunch AV settings enable DTS and AC3. Then I have to start ConfigMagic again, and Re-Lock the Harddisk. This way I will have digital audio, until the Xbox is booted...

Please help me make my Xbox remember this setting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

2.) When I play my backup games from HDD, all cutscenes fail to synchronize video with audio? -Audio is always ahead of the video (anywhere from 2-10 seconds). This doesn't happen when playing the game from the DVD...can anyone help me fix this? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

hey guys sorry i just cant read all 22 pages, what do i do if i have windows? what program since it seems xboxhdm is for linux, and is there really any safe way of swappin hd's??? and is there a specific tutorial for windows and i?

In other news I'm so close to Ftp'in my xbox. I Ping'd it and it's there. I can ALMOST get on it but the directory won't show. Any help?

Wow great tut. I still have yet to make this work. After hotswapping and pressing 1 I get this error:

"could not find ramdisk image:initrd.gz"

Im thinking my drive is staying locked. Ive hotswapped it about 10 times already with no luck. What can I do? Thx

what version xboxhdm are you using, also did you replace the file "initrd" with the one from the uxe installer

ok basically this tutorial went great for me. thanks textbook!!

however, i added a 200gig HDD but i was unaware of the 137gig limit. i have my F drive filled with games and now i want to partition it to be able to use the G drive.

can someone direct me to a tutorial that will help me solve this? my dash says that i'm running V+3935 and my xbox is a v1.6

i want to let "partition 6 take up to 137GB/ partition 7 takes up the rest" as i do not want to lose information. i guess i can just reformat everything and/or try to get it done through trial and error... but it took me way too long to upload these games (used USB1.1)

Just use unleashx, go to format menu of unleashx and format G drive.. no need to reformat the whole drive..

so far i downloaded oz_paulb's evox_G_partition_patcher. however, it says that it will only work for EvoX dashboard v1.8.3752. i have v+3935.

has anyone actually done this?

sorry, actually, i wasn't aware that unleashx was a dashboard like evox.

i was hoping to use a utility rather than changing my dash. is it easy to use? do you have a tutorial on how to do this exactly? thanks

Thanks for a great howto!

Though I am having problems.. heh. I have managed to hotswap okay, and I get to the part where it does the legwork on the hd, but it spits out four errors about not being able to find files below a "hack" dir. This dir and its subdirs has no files for me.

This leads to when I am finished with step 5 and it says done, I reboot and get a error 13.

This I can fix with a game, but then I'm back to the msdash. I have tried this 3 times with the same results, and with fresh cds and files from the links on this tut.

The only problem I can image is that I am running linux and there is a path problem when I mount or something. I poked around in the iso and found no files below /linux/C or E, and I couldnt find any dash files in the UXE, only the files listed in the threads... So am I missing a step here, I assume I dont need SLayers iso for just softomodding a vanilla xbox?

what should the file tree below hack be? I dont see this catalog in the isofiles, is it extracted from the uxe installer?

Would appreciate any input on this!
