Just wondering if anyone knows just how big of a Hard Drive you can put into a soft modded system and still be able to utilize all of it's space past 137gb. Someone told me that unless you have a hardware mod you will only be able to utilize 137gb of the HD due to the bios etc. Can anyone confirm? I don't want to buy a 200gb HD only to use 137gb.

Thanks,

Newer softmods will support a drive upto 400gigs,  after that corrupt on G will occur.

@Madcowmax, you should be able to FTP just fine.  Please take a good look at your network settings carefully.  If you're using EvoX, disable passive mode in FlashFXP by doing the following:

Hit F6, hit the Connection tab, uncheck Use Passive Mode

Any of you guys using this method to softmod having trouble with 480p/720p/1080i settings? My issue is, when I go into MSDashboard to turn these resolutions ON, all is well once I reboot the system. But if I turn the system off, and back on, then the settings are back to OFF, though it does remember the widescreen setting, and my clock settings - I don't understand why it turns the other settings to off or doesn't remember them.

Any ideas? Yes, I am using component cables, and the games that support 480p, do successfully run in that resolution.

Otherwise, following this thread, I was able to modify my system, and a friends with no trouble.

Kind regards,
Ryan

the virtual eeprom option in nkpatcher is enabled and there is NO eeprom.bin where it is looking for it
so when you make a change it does NOT update the real eeprom but tries to save it to the eeprom.bin
thats not there... but setting will stay untill a full reboot

put a copy of the eeprom.bin in the correct place for your setup
(E:\eeprom.bin or C:\eeprom.bin, could be somewhere else thought)

Excellent tut, thanks for taking the time to write it textbook, and thanks to everyone else in this thread that's pitched in with pointers.

After an unsuccessful attempt at installing an EasyBuy2000 x-chip mod in my 1.6 xbox (<rant>don't get me started on this as it could fill an entire thread all on it's own, just surmise it to say DO NOT BUY FROM EB2k!</rant>) I read as much as I could about softmodding on these forums and attempted it last night.

Worked 100% the first time with no problems whatsoever!  Tonight I'll be upgrading the HD, but I have little doubt that will be successful too.  As others have said, the hardest part was doing the hotswap... took me a few tries to get the timing right between xboxhdm and the xbox itself, but I finally used the 'play music from the HD' method and got it going.

Thanks again everyone!

P.S. I meant to add; the only suggestion I have is for textbook to put the instructions on backing up your C drive from the howswapping faq in this tut, which I suspect will help a lot of newbs who won't bother to read the other posts and just blindly proceed with this one.  Otherwise, it's perfect.

I followed this guide to a T and everything went perfectly, however I am not receiving any network connection.

From the system menu, it simply says "No Link."

I have Googled everything possible and have looked at several other people with a similar problem but I cannot find a resolution on my own. Creating a static IP doesn't seem to work, as my router isn't even recognizing the MAC address as being connected. I know I am using the correct cable, as I simply moved it from my XBOX 360, back to my original XBOX.

I am running through a Linksys Router, with another XBOX360 and two PCs on the network.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Nope, sorry, USB won't work.  Need to have a desktop PC with regular IDE hookups.

Wow, that good huh?  Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback, it makes my time spent working on tutorials worth it.  I just finished up a VGA tutorial that I would like to say is my best tutorial yet.  And I'll be working on the NDURE one for this topic as well.

Glad to see it worked out fine for you.  While I would have to admit it's a pretty damn good tutorial, I have had a lot of good pointers from other people as to how I could improve it.  I will scourge this thread over when I make my NDURE tutorial.  Thanks.

Hi Guys,

Could anyone plz mail me UXE Installer for XboxHDM?

I've mailed a couple of times to [email protected] and waited and waited...

my mail adress is: [email protected]

Requesting files on the forums here is against the rules, and you may get banned.  Don't worry, I'm not yelling at you, you probably didn't know, even if it is in the rules.  Another way to find the file is by going to Kingroach's Download Page and viewing the page source.

Hmm, weird that both you and Madcowmax did the mod fine, yet had network problems afterwards uhh.gif

Is it just FTP that's giving you problems or is simply no connection at all.  Either way, first look at Chefelf's Networking Guide.  If it's just FTP that's giving you the problem, I would guess that you're using EvoX (because that's what the softmod installs) and FlashFXP (the most popular FTP client).  If I am correct, follow the same instructions I gave Madcowmax.

You could use your USB connector on the laptop by using VMware to create a virtual machine.

Other than that , you'd have to add and mount the drive manually in xboxhdm , and auto scripts wouldnt work, everything would need to be manual.

ok here's my dilemma:

my modchip just died on me the other day, so now im back to a stock xbox but i still have my 160gig harddrive.  i would like to be able to softmod my xbox and use it still.  if i plug my unlocked harddrive from my modded xbox into my comp. and use xboxhdm, can i use this tutorial to get it up and running again?  my harddrive is set to run from evoxdash.xbe, so how can i use this xboxhdm to just have the softmod run evox without installing it on there?

any help would be great.
