ok, first of all, I have a v 1.0 xbox, and am running win 2kpro on my comp.

first of all,  I want to softmod, but do not have a mem. card, and therefore want to go with the fonts exploit. second of all, i'd rather not have to solder, although I have a iron and am willing to if needed.  I am following xboxhdm for dummies (like me) this tutorial, but when i downloaded the hdm v 1.9 zip, it did not have the required linux folder to place the stuff for C:\ from the slayer disk?

I have been able to get my hd on the xbox to unlock, by pausing my pc before it checks IDE, and it recognizes that i have the xbox hd on my IDE cable, but will not load all the way to windows(maybe cause i'm using 2k?), so i think that the xboxhdm linux cd method will be my best bet to safely modify and backup my xbox hard drive. I have downloaded the slayer release, and just need help with getting the iso for the cd made, so that i can burn it and attempt hotswap again and get into the hdm menu. any and all help would be greatly aprreciated. if this topic is in the wrong forum then plz move it! sorryz! thanks guys, the tutorials have been very insightful!

edit: p.s. i'd like to use the "uxe package".. but I didn't understand how this works with the hdm?? sorry for being sucha noob

wow, thanks for the fast response! i've been able to get the hotswap to work, well to the extent that my computer recognizes it, but every time i try to hotswap once windows is running, and go to device manager and refresh, it resets my harddrive. looks like my only option is the startup hotswap and hdm?

Savegame exploits are generally used to place font exploits (since you cant eject the DVD tray with a savegame exploit) but besides that.

Here you can download xboxhdm 1.9 (or ofcourse the xs download page) and it should contain (unpacked that is) the proper setup

xboxhdm <folder>
 linux <folder>
 make-iso-win.bat
 mkisofs.exe
 cygwin1.dll
 make-iso-lin.sh
 ReadMe.txt

and some other stuff.

Edit: dont need windows here dude, disconnect ur windows drive just for safety!

@cio, Thanks! Your link had the linux folder i was missing! i guess i could have just made one.. but i was a little uneasy about that. well, thats one hurdle down. So now the next step is to extract the necessary files out of the slayers evox autoinstaller right?

ok, encountered a new problem   . my computer uses phoenix bios, and when attempting the mod, I am using my dvd-rw which is connected to the mobo via sata. i also have a dvd-rom drive, which is connected to the mobo via ide(secondary). my problem is that i can get the hdm to load to the first screen, but when I get to the screen where i'm supposed to type in "xbrowser", when i type it in, it says cannot find cd.. i have tried putting the cd in the dvd-rom and booting with that, but it wont even load the hdm. any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

first try to disable SATA (in BIOS) and use IDE only (preferred setup is primairy master for HD, primairy slave for cd)

if that dun work try looking up "xboxhdm in safe mode" (i really need to bookmark that one, if you find the link plz PM me )
