There are 3 options to solve this problem.

* Use your eeprom backup (hope you have it on your PC ...)

* Hotswap (Only possible if the harddisk actually unlocks on this 'halt on logo', I really don't know if it does)
* Use xboxhdm to fix the problem (replace c:)
* Re-mod
* Backup eeprom

If the hdd doesn't unlock on your error : get a chip.

ok. some advancements but still some problems.

i cannot get the xboxhdm boot disk to work (v 1.9). every time it boots into it and i select one of the first three options it starts to load then gives me this error

"boot failed: disk error 20, AX = 4280 drive EF"

i have tried burning it several different times, as well as rebuilding the iso several times as well, same error. i also tried it on another PC laying around and i was given the same error. i would really like to get it to work, but im lost. even googling the error provided no help.

perhaps a bare minimum restore disk only? the one i used was copying the C from slayers to the C in linux. does anyone have a bare bones one?

i hotswapped and tried tons of those horrible fatx programs and they all crash when it finds the xbox. the only one that half worked was hdd driver, which backed up my xbox to a .bin file and not an iso. i couldn't locate any programs to do anything with it, as they all require .iso - anyone know what i can do there or do i have an 8g pile of crap? atleast i've discovered that it does unlock the HD before it stops anyway.

i also used the live info program while hotswapped and wrote down the HDD password it showed... is that the one i need to unlock/lock my hdd?

... someone please help me. i have spent the last two days in a pile of PC's, Monitors and Xbox parts... my sanity is fading away.

Just get an unlocked hard drive and a modchip.

I understand your pain.. i really do. AFAIK, you can run xboxhdm in "safe mode" and this should solve the problem.

And this better work cause it took me 15 minutes to find. If it doesn't, try the following: Disconnect any USB devices (use a PS2 keyboard). Make sure all NIC's have an active connection (if you have 2, looping a cable between them works).
