Like a lot of people, I recently picked up a new hard drive with the intent of trowing it in my soft-modded xbox. Like a lot of people, I was led to believe that xboxhdm was the only tool I would need. Like a lot of people, I couldn't get it work.
I'm not blaming xboxhdm at all. In fact it did a wonderful job of building my new hard drive, partitioning it and copying the system files and such. When it came to the locking part, however, it wouldn't do it. Evox gave me a bad eeprom dump. I had read a lot before ordering my new drive, so I knew that this could happen with my v1.6 xbox and had config magic waiting just in case. Config magic also gave me a bad dump.
At this point I thought all was lost and that my new hard drive would never make into my big black box. That is until I stumbled upon a post naming chimps tool. The post did not have a link, but the name was all I needed. I searched for chimps tool to see what it was good for. Let me tell you, it was good for exactly what I needed.
I did have to put up with the green screen and telnet in from my computer to use the program, but it locked my drive right up without any problems (after I remember to set the jumper on my new drive to slave, that is).
So if you are having a problem similar to mine, or just want to see another option for hard drive set up, take a look >URL=http://www.geocities.com/bononochimpanzee/]here[/URL].<
Thank you chimps tool.
