Almost Got It....
« on: July 08, 2005, 12:07:00 AM »

I was having problems getting Live to work.  I turned off Krayzies softmod and manually updated my M$ dash and deleted the shadow C and dashboard folder off the E: drive.  I then got Live working with what is now a completly stock drive.  I then used Krayzies installer to redo the softmod.  I shut off the mod and went on Live using MA, which is also what I used to install the exploit.  Everything is fine, however when I go to turn the softmod back on I can no longer run the "Run Linux" save, there is an error that wont allow it to load.  I figure that I should be able to just delete the gamesave and then transfer it back on from the memory card.  After I do that and then go into "Run Linux" the exploit loads but starts from the inital install menu and not the one with the option to turn the exploit back on.  Krayzie, have you got any suggestions?  Is it just because I am trying to use the same game that I used to do the exploit?

Edit: Also, when I sign onto Live without turning off the softmod (just coldbooting), it says that I have to update and the screen just goes black.  If I turn the softmod off first, the update is successful.

When you go onto live with MA, it updates the game engine, stopping
the HACK saves from working.

If you wish to reload the HACK save, and use it, you need to go into
the MS dashboard, then to memory, and delete the COMPLETE tree
of MA saves, all of them, and the MA icon, this will DELETE the updated
game engine, and allow you HACK save to load correctly.

Thanks for the info.  So if I just avoid using MA online, I should have no problems?

Sorry I couldn'r edit in time.

Also, what about future updates on other games.  Am I likely to have to update in other games now that I have already updated unsing MA?  How will I get games to work on Live in the future if an update is necessary and I don't have a copy of MA to shutoff the softmod?

if you go live once you should allready get the latest dashboard. Once you get this there should be no need to upgrade anymore and you can go live with coldbooting. If you are in the initail install screen after transfering a new save you can force the installer to load another xml file by renaming them.

Thank for the reply Krayzie.  I need to try this with another game other than MA.  I updated the dash by going on Live and then installed your installer.  When I coldboot MA now and go on Live, it once again tells me to update.  When I do attempt to update it crashes to a black screen.  Any idea why I am being asked to update again?

probably a game update that fails due to no acces to update.xbe. You could either switch the softmod off like you did before but then you will loose the gamesave exploit functionality. Another option would be to switch to Ndure which leaves acces to update.xbe even with mod switched on. The Failing gamesave exploit thing stays though since the exploit cannot operate with other MA data around.

Why would there be no access to the update.xbe?  The softmod is not trigerred when coldbooting, correct?

Of course.  Do you think that this is possibly just isolated to MA, or am I likely to have this problem with other games?  I know there are guys out there playing Halo2 online with your setup Krayzie, so I don't know if it something I am doing or is it just this MA game.  If I do install ndure should I go through the process of getting my Live setup and then install ndure?

I don't have any experience with live. I allways thought you was like promted if a game wanted to upgrade or something.  Normally games would have to upgrade only a few times so switching off the exploit would fix that. But keep in mind if MA is played the gamesave exploit stops working and you need to delete the MA saves/updates
