It seems like theres a problem loading shadowc from C drive.. its has been moved to E drive again..

hmm, i didn`t install the ndure yet, but for what i see, after unpacking the installer, there is only a folder "c" but no folder "e". when will the shadow c be created on the e-drive then?? after first boot?

one other question:

with uxe it was always possible to go in dualboot-mode directly (without exploiteable game), if the dashboard was fuc**d up or something like that. for what i understand in ndure you must have this game to load the gamesave installer-menu. is that right? i think, this is a dissadvantage to uxe! i only lend me the game for doing the softmod. with ndure i should always have that game in order to get my xbox back working when something went wrong (of course the chances that something went wrong is minimal, i know)
am i right?

Was this just a temporary reversion (to get 1.5's softmod boot working)?

yes.. It was just few minor changes.. I just changed shadowc path to E:\shadowc\ thats all.. I am planning next version to include that "moving fonts to xodash\fonts" feature.. Its taking some time since I know little of pascal scripting..

When loading the img of the C drive nkpatcher needs to be set up like:
QUOTE
%define VIRTUAL_C_DRIVE 2
%define ACTUAL_C_DRIVE 8
%define VIRTUAL_C_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition8\shadowc.img'

this is because it then creates a (fake) partition (which mirrors the C partition)where the img is loaded from and the shadowc doesn't conflict with itself..

That's excellent news; thanks dude.  Maybe you could include the toggle feature in the dash's .ini file too?  (Btw, it's fonts0 [a zero's appended] as per http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=45&t=263586&view=findpost&p=2725930).

@krayzie: with the above settings, including the two updates, where will it look for the dashboard?  Also, I personally wouldn't configure the `%define DISABLE_VIRTUAL_EEPROM_WRITE`, as it will default to that anyway (and if a user subsequently wants it to be over-writable, they just need to put their eeprom.bin file in place)...

When talking boothpaths, wouldn't it be better if the hacked dash booted off E (virtual/real C probs..)

like
CODE
%define DASHBOARD_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\dashboard\default.xbe'

ohwk lol i just wanted to post some code aswell.. but you get the point, a dashboard on the virtual C seems unpractical to me (cant place it if you dont boot thru NKpatcher)

ok i'm not krayzie but perhaps i can answer.

i believe nkpatcher would look for the dash on the virtual c drive as this becomes partition 2 once mounted. the real c becomes partition 8. the dash is loaded after the mounting and redefining occurs so afaik it will look on the shadow c.

ok i've only just started reading about this ndure, am i correct in assuming that the memory layout bug doesn't occur with ndure only when using kernel specific fonts? would generic fonts would be virtually the same as uxe as far as memory issues go?

@total_ass: your assumption's incorrect; starting with http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=45&t=263586&view=findpost&p=2603639 Ndure's generic font was found to be more stable than UXE's fonts (because the Ndure .xbe+fonts don't seem to have the issues that UXE's .xbe+fonts do).

(Consequently even the generic Ndure "basic" setup that's in this installer provides a better softmod foundation than UXE based setups do. wink.gif)

@anyone that knows for sure: would this be the config resulting from the above updates (re. everything on real-C)?
CODE
%ifndef CONFIG_INC
%define CONFIG_INC
;;; Configuration for nkpatcher 10
%define DASHBOARD_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition8\hack\dash\default.xbe'
%define EJECT_FIX
%define GAME_REGION_AUTO
%ifdef GAME_REGION_AUTO
%define GAME_REGION_PRIMARY 1
%define GAME_REGION_SECONDARY 4
%define GAME_REGION_TERTIARY 2
%endif; GAME_REGION_AUTO

%define VIRTUAL_C_DRIVE 2
%define ACTUAL_C_DRIVE 8
%define VIRTUAL_C_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition8\shadowc\shadowc.img'
%define VIRTUAL_CDROM_DRIVE
%define LBA48
%define PARTITION_METHOD 1
%define VIRTUAL_EEPROM
%define VIRTUAL_EEPROM_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition8\shadowc\eeprom.bin'
%define NORMAL_BOOT_ALWAYS
%endif; CONFIG_INC

thanks eh, i assumed that the increased stability only applied to kernal specific fonts.

as far as that code goes that looks correct. however iirc many dashes have issues running from within partition8, so that is another factor to take into consideration. as Cio mentioned it would be wiser and easier to have it booting off of partition1 (E drive).

providing that nkp is configured to boot dvd prior to dash this would still result in a pretty fool-proof setup.

Dual boot and coldboot is a VERY big difference. You seem to misunderstand the point. With UXE, you coudn't access ANY part of the M$dash in unmodded state (only coldboot games, no XBL update/content support)

With the ndure retail setup, you can boot the xbox without a game in the tray and STILL get a retail kernel (So you can go on XBL). You cant access the XBL console though, thats what the rename is for.

If your really scared bout fucking up.. you could even get the Ndure retail setup and then apply EEE (allowing you to get to a modded state manually from the "retail" mode) Meaning retail mode with a backdoor and a fully modded state.

However, both EEE and Ndure are based on XBL console exploits, so they neither allow (full) XBL console access (AFAIK)
