Vga Sog Support For Nkpatcher10
« Reply #135 on: August 17, 2006, 01:15:00 AM »

Latest stable version:
nkpatcher10-vga.diff - changes nkpatcher10 -> nkpatcher10-vga
nkpatcher10-vga8.zip - full source code

This includes Conexant video register fixes for kernels 3944, 4034, 4817, 5101. These changes allow display of 720p and 1080i modes properly with bi-level sync on green on boxes with Conexant video encoder chip.

Latest version:
nkpatcher10-vga9.diff - changes nkpatcher10 -> nkpatcher10-vga9
nkpatcher10-vga9.zip - full source code

Same as above plus Focus video register fixes for kernels 4817 and 5101. This supposedly changes synchronization from tri-level to bi-level in video modes 720p and 1080i, so that SoG monitors are happy. Unfortunately these changes are only for these 2 kernel versions (at least for now).

This has been tested by some people on boxes with Conexant encoder, but has not been tested on Focus encoder boxes with said kernel versions. My Xbox is kernel version 5713, so I can't verify it works.

Is there such a thing as 1.4 box with kernel 5101?

Be sure to have a way to recover if it frags.

Please report your kernel version and results.

dr, do you know anything about editing BIOSes?  Foe-Hammer, ClintiePoo, and myself would like a 720p VGA BIOS.  DVADER has been gone from the scene, and none of us know how to edit bios kernel images.

Nice progress towards the "Final VGA solution"  smile.gif

Updated NKP11_U03 with the new VGA9 patches
as always you can turn them on/off or
setup tray state booting to select VGA, Progressive on/off
with just the runtime config file(s)

Progressive scan example:

nkpatcher10-vga10.diff - changes nkpatcher10 -> nkpatcher10-vga10
nkpatcher10-vga10.zip - full source code

This includes full support for Conexant and Focus encoders for all kernel versions.
Xcalibur encoder is not supported. GPU is still patched to output RGB, but no encoder specific patches, because there is no datasheet available.

Be sure to have a way to recover if it frags.

Please report your kernel version and results.

Version: XBOX v1.4 Kernel 5713
Encoder: Focus
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 191T LCD.
Results: 480p and 1080i work. 1080i did not work before, now it works. 720p does not work. Probably the monitor does not support it.

Dr. Oldschool, I see you now have a vga10... What are the differences between vga9 and vga10? Better Focus encoder support?

So, all kernels meaning 5838 too? (1.6/1.6b) From what I got out of your above post, Conexant and Focus are fully supported, and Xcalibur is limited to like 480p?

Yes. Kernels are not really tied to specific video encoder chip. The exceptions are kernels 3944 and 4034 that support Conexant only. Kernels 4817 and 5101 support Conexant or Focus. 5530 and up support any encoder chip.
Yes, it might be so that there are no Xboxes produced with Focus encoder and kernel 5838, but that does not mean it's not possible.

VGA output with Xcalibur video encoder is not possible right now. GPU is still patched to output RGB, but apparently it is not sufficient - as people in this thread have reported, you get green tint image.
Encoder needs to be reconfigured as well to output RGsB and it can't be done because:
1) no specs are available for Xcalibur chip
2) I don't have a 1.6 Xbox

I see, thanks for your reply.

Aside from that though, thanks for all your hard work! Every softmodder here appreciates it.

Hi Huys,

I've been reading through this post learning what I need to do so I am able to connect my XBOX to my LCD.  I've established that my LCD suuports sync-on-green so I don't need a "sync ic" etc but I'm slighty confused as to how I am supposed to build my cable.

I understand that I need to wire my cable for HD mode with the VGA SoG patch for NKPatcher10.  I've seen references to HDTV mode (110, 2+3).  Can somebody explain what the 110 and 2+3 mean and how I should wire my cable as the guides I've found never really mention whether its VGA or HD mode being enabled?

Thanks!
