Xbox 1.7? -oh Ohhh...
« on: May 24, 2005, 10:00:00 AM »

I just saw on the main news page that there is a 1.7 xbox revision, which is breaking a few modchips :( God i hope this doesn't take down our lovely UXE/NKPATCHER heaven that we have.

Anyone know dates or anything about this thing?

Why is SmartXX teasing us. If they have one they should at least post some pictures. I suspect it can't be that big of a update if they already claim to support it. I bet it will have the same chipset as a 1.6/1.6b maybe just some traces moved again or something small. Anyhow I am sure we will find out soon enough.

as long as it has 5838 kernel..I guess this will be last batch from MS since they cancelled deal with nvidia to produce more graphic chips for xbox.. so they wil just use the rest for las batch.. and bite hard in  modders ass.. tongue.gif

Personally, I smell bullshit. There's no reason for them not to show us what we really want to know (kernel, video encoder, TSOP or lack of TSOP, etc) except for the fact that they don't have any real info and are just trying to glorify their chip. I mean shit, they said the X3 was too complicated for them to install and try out on a 1.7, which is bullshit. Installing an X3 isn't that much different from installing any other chip, especially if you use a pin header. Unless we start seeing more cases of these 1.7's, I say Team SmartXX is just talking shit to sell their chip.z`

Hello I was wondering if the "(ALL! Video modes)" part might be a clue oh and SmartXX has previously discovered things before anyone else oh and hard disk information being extracted by Xbox Live is an example of that.

<_<

This is typically an example of marketing. There is no other reason not to show the pictures except for more SmartXX news.

I've softmodded an xbox manufactured on 2005-04-01 with no problems, it might have been a v1.7, kernel was 5838 and the dashboard was 5960.

There's supposed to be a new version out for a while now, all dating 'somewhere' 2005.

I've asked around a couple of times, but never got a definte answer.

I first read the rumour  in the TSOP section. It was brought as a 'good news' item, as the "1.7" was resembling the 1.4, having a flashable TSOP again.

Explanaition for this was a change of MS' strategy and more cost efficient.

If I remember correct, first report is from around february this year.

But ... as most people don't like their Xbox to be opened up 'just to check stuff' I haven't been able to confirm this.

So .... don't look over your shoulder ... there might have been 1.7's just behind you for the past 3 months or so  blink.gif

Knowing nothing I kinda gotta say this after reading the news post...

What the hell are they hashing here?
Why hasn't any other chip manufacturer seen this yet (Since obviously SmartXX had enough time to make their chip v1.7 compatible)?
Why do they clearly post that other chips don't work?
Why hasn't any normal person posted that their Xbox is having problems?

This is alot like v1.5 consoles, which don't exist. Anyone who says they have a v1.5 actually has a v1.4. The v1.5 apparently has no 3.3v or 5v connections on the LPC, but nobody has ever been able to verify this. Information on re-routing 5v connections in modchip install manuals is left there for simplicity.

Well here is a xbox I have sitting here now .. not modded yet till thursday
I expect everything to work out fine using ICE Chip pin header install with lpc rebuild by hand.

Xbox Date: 2005-02-16
5838.01
5960.01
White and Red DVD Wires
Brown Wires leading to on/off board

****UPDATE*****

Since I wrote this.. I have flipped the board over to find all the same points available for a xenium Ice chip...
I do not have this chip yet to install on this particular box.. but I recently did one that looked like this made in 2005 and it worked out fine.
I did notice that their seemed to be a couple different things on the board.. but again this could just be a 1.6b that I have never really noticed any difference from a 1.6-1.6b besides hearing the wires are different colors.

So.. As of right now.. I believe this IS a 1.6b unless someone points something out.   But if something goes wrong thursday I will let the forum know (of course someone else will probably have the answers by then)
