QUOTE
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD (Identify) failed

... when I executed "lockhd -a" it calculated the password en then prior to where it normally says "command completed succesfully" and "master password has been set to "XBOXSCENE""

According to atapwd:

- Security supported.
- Hard drive locked
- User password present

Which is the default for all lockable drives after locking them with xboxhdm.

The first thing I did after that is see if the error could be neglected and tried the hard drive in the matching xbox.

Allas.. It gave me an error 6.

Now the hard drive cannot be unlocked (nor with eeprom-generated user password nor with master password)

The hard drive belongs to someone else for whom I wanted to mod an xbox so I told him to try and return it (I give it a 99% change the supplier is totally unaware of the locking capabillities smile.gif)
And I told him, ofcourse, that I'd take responsibility. Which I will.

I think he will be able to exchange the hard drive.
If not I will replace it for him.. no sweat, shit happens.

But that does not clarify for me the reason for this error.

Personally I think this hard drive was allready broken.
ATA security is supported and other 200GB WD's locked fine.
If ATA security is not supported then it would simply just not lock it due to not understanding the commands.

What do you think?

- feature implementation failure?
- broken hard drive, should properly support the feature and therefore be within warranty?
- xboxhdm failure?
- pc failure?
- rare case of "haha, your fucked!"
- Other?
