Chimp's Hd Cloner Tutorial
« on: May 01, 2005, 11:00:00 AM »

this is my first tutorial so bear with me. chimp's is a hd cloner/upgrade tool that can be used instead of xboxhdm. you can obtain it here http://www.geocities...ononochimpanzee
if it doesn't work it's because the bandwidth cap has been reached. try again at another time or google it. anyways,
What you need:
1. chimps in place hd cloner(the tool)
2.knowledge of how to open your xbox
3. new hd
4.xbox's stock hd
5. a computer nearby(you can also use a y power splitter but i din't so if you are, substitute computer for y power splitter)

first, unrar chimps tool. you will see a folder called UDATA. open it. now you will see a folder called 4d530017. open it. now open 62D648EBF155. you will see a folder called default.xbe. take this an move it to udata. so inside the udata folder there will be 4d530017 folder and default.xbe. take udata and ftp it to your apps folder.

now, open the xbox.take a computer(not monitor or anything else needed) and plug it in next to your xbox. plug your computer's hd's power cable into the new hd. don't mess with it. now turn on your xbox. go to the apps folder on you'r dash. you will see the program.choose it. now, this is the part that seems scary, but it's not. unplug the ide cable from the dvd drive and plug it in to your new hd. turn on the computer, thus giving power to your new hd. now choose option 1 on the menu, it should tell you the specifications from your hd. make sure they're correct. now, the rest is up to you! have fun beerchug.gif

The first three times I tried Chimps, it worked great.

But recently I have tried it, and it just freezes on the
part were it says "wiping parition" info.

I wait over 5 minutes, and nothing.

I have redownloaded the original zip, thinking maybe
it got corrupted but still nothing.

Very strange.

------

But you do need to add a little bit more info on
the tutorial, like the fact on v1.6 you need to have
a PC and TELNET into the program to see the screen.

Will this work with a 1.6 xbox, and what are the risks involved??

Are there any issues with locking/unlocking??

I have a new hard drive ready for my xbox.  I'm considering using your tool, as I fear the locking/unlocking issues many seem to have with the various hard drive prep/locking tools.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried this on a 1.6 box, but I read that the video chip in those boxes is not supported, so you need to telnet with your PC to 192.168.0.3 and send the commands in the telnet window.

The risks are that you can damage the IDE channel in your xbox. I don't know all the commands but maybe you can wipe your original drive if you set wrong the jumpers or the cable. So please be sure to read the instructions and don't blame chimpanzee if you mess your box.

Thanks xato, and Jfoster.

Your information, and quick response is very much appreciated.

Xboxhdm looks like the best means of upgrading my xbox.

Thanks for your time.

by all means, if you can use xboxhdm, do it. the risks are much less.

I put the file default.xbe in the apps folder, ran it and I get an error....you're instructions weren't exactly clear...do I need to put the entire 2nd folder in or what?
