Adding Hdd To A Softmod
« on: March 25, 2005, 03:37:00 PM »

is there any other way to add a bigger HDD to a softmodded xbox other than Hotswapping, Chimpanzye's way, and putting linux on the pc and making a bootable disc.

thanks for the help

because I have a laptop so I'm just trying to find a more concise explanation that would be feasible to me having a laptop and all. (if that makes any since at all)

thanks again

sad.gif i have chipped box but the only thing I did was install the chip my friend flashed the bios and added the software and what not. I have downloaded a couple of autoinstallers so I guess i can try to use those.

ok let me get this straight. would I just pop out my HDD on my chipped box and then add the HDD that  I want to install on the softmodded box and just put autoinstaller in. And since I already have the bios on my chip. I don't know that sounds to easy for me. i'm missing something fellas.

THanks Xboxgamer733 I really appreciate your time and thanks to everyone else.

I would go about it like this:

1.) Put the new HD in the chipped Xbox.
2.) Boot the Xbox with a Slayer's disc in the drive.
3.) Format the partitions, and install the necessary files (like xboxdash.xbe, etc...). I think there is an option that lets you do this automatically. It's Rebuild HD or something like that.
4.) Put a gamesave exploit like Krayzie's UXE installer on the HD via FTP, and rent the game needed to install it if you don't own it already. It needs to be an original copy.
5.) Obtain the EEPROM from the softmodded Xbox, and get the HD password from it.
6.) Lock the new HD with that password.
7.) Put the new HD in the softmodded Xbox, turn on the Xbox, and it should boot to the MS dash.
8.) Load the game, load the gamesave, and follow the instructions, and you should have a softmodded Xbox with an upgraded HD!

If the box is already softmodded then you should already have the eeprom.bin!
Before you prepare/lock the new hdd in the chipped box you will need to either flash the softmodded boxes eeprom onto the chipped box, or atleast make the unique hdd key match the softmodded box..
If you don't do this you WILL get error6 when you put the hdd in the softmodded box..

smile.gif.

Anyhow, thanks.

Edit:

By the way go like this, unlock your chipped Xbox'es hard drive if its locked for one thing.

Reflash the EEPROM on the chipped Xbox to the softmodded Xbox'es EEPROM.

Do a normal hard drive upgrade procedure on the chipped Xbox (Format, add the MS Dashboard, lock it with ConfigMagic).

Take the hard drive you prepped and locked and put it in the softmodded Xbox. If it boots, well, hooray!

Reflash the EEPROM of the chipped Xbox to what it was before, and relock its hard drive if you want to.

Tutorial for upgrading hd with chipped xbox

i think this helps. i softmodded a lot of xboxes with that method (i also have only a laptop). think its easier than open the pc and put it the xbox-hd boot the xboxhdm-cd...just use your chipped xbox for this.
