Good. Now, find out which DVD drive brand you have (Samsung, Philips or Thompson) and learn the pros and cons of your drive.

You will also learn that the different brands read different types of media.

Yes, but network settings (ip addresses, net mask, etc) must be correct too.

Easiest way to make things work, is to put Xbox on the same subnet as your PC is.

I would manually configure PC like this:
ip addr=192.168.100.1
mask=255.255.255.0
gateway=leave it empty or set to default

And Xbox:
ip addr=192.168.100.3
mask=255.255.255.0
gateway=192.168.100.1 (ip address of PC)

Note! If you have a firewall, check that it passes traffic to and from Xbox.

Well i just figured it out.
The DAMN ip has to be one number different than your xbox ip.
ex. xbox-192.168.100.10
     pc-192.168.100.11

HOLY SHIZER who would have thought?
Not me thats for sure, ive been messing around with this thing for like 2 hours!!
Oh well its good to know that you figured something out all by yourself for once.lol

Pogo pin method is not very reliable installation method.  My Xbox fragged about once a week until I isolated the second d0 pogo pin from the motherboard and tightened the screw. If you want to do the same, check were the second d0 pogo pin sits and place a tiny peace of paper between the pin and the motherboard.

Anyway, first I would check visually that the d0 pin really sits on the d0 via:

I highly recommended that you obtain a Xecuter2 bios (build 4979, 4981 or 4983). If you have no more problems with the flash software, format with option 6 and write the bios image to "bios 6 256k". Set the dips 1=on, 2=off, 3=on, 4=off. If you are not sure how the dips should be set, write the bios to all bios banks. Bios 1 and 2 need 512k bios image, so use Xbtool to modify your bios image size from 256k to 512k.

Those bios builds I mentioned, have two bios versions in the rar archive: 49xx.06 and 49xx.67. If your hard disk is smaller than 137GB, use version .06. Actually, use .06 version always unless you want your 137GB+ hard disk to be compatible with older bioses that don't have LBA48 support.
