so could anybody reassure me here that i have a higher percent of success then failure?
What if i accidentally lock the hd. do i just hotswap again? and before i put the hd back into the xbox do i have to relock it?

I've used UXE, it has no problems for me, no clock loop, nothing, so I'd vote for it over UDE2 personally.

if you lock it, so long as you know the password, you're ok, but I think you'd know you were locking it

I mod all xbxo's with UDE2+PBL-M*.. not because I have bias for UDE or I dont like Nkpatcher.. I made a softmod cd long ago and still mod with that.. and I am too lazy to build another one.. but UDE2 works great with 5859 NTSC.. and I use bert_are_earnie-4849 font with scraps.xtf

I have exactly the same - NTSC XboX 1.6 with 5838 and dash 5960

I have used xboxhdm_v1.9 and UXE ... not I can play backups but EvoX do not start - only ugly "Service required" with error 21

So ... be carefull with UXE

Freaking noobs.. If you can play backups then UXE is working fine.. UXE happens before nkpatcher loads.. If you can load backups then nkpatcher loaded successfully, and you're just an idiot who can't set up his dashboard.. Might wanna leave the advice at home until you understand what you are talking about..
As for UDE_1.4, its a great package, and I would use it on your box unless king roach has completed his UXE installer for xboxhdm.. The only reason I suggest that is because of shadowc capabilities even though he himself apparently dislikes nkpatcher..

Get uxe complete v.0.2.x then set it up according to its instructions

copy the complete contents of the output folder into the xboxhdm C
