Will 1.6 Eeprom Work On 1.0?
« on: March 06, 2005, 09:32:00 AM »

i've read that you can't use 1.0-1.5 eeproms on a 1.6 xbox, but if i wanted to upgrade the hdd on my softmodded box, can i flash the 1.6 eeprom onto my tsop flashed 1.0 box?

The eeprom is not stored on the TSOP, if you flash it to the TSOP you will destroy your xbox.

Its much easier and safer to use XboxHDM to lock your new hard drive, you can setup the new drive with your TSOP'ed xbox then lock it with xboxhdm and your 1.6 eeprom.

What about swapping the eeprom chips altogether...will that actually work considering the  xbox version differences??

Yeh, but swapping eeprom chips is not that easy, you could make mistakes, its easier via software.

a 1.6 eeprom will work on a 1.0, as well as any 1.0-1.5 eeprom.

My only other test was that all eeproms 1.0-1.6 work on a 1.4

Just dont put anything on a 1.6 other than a 1.6 eeprom, it wont work with other version

thanks G0t M4xx 21 - that's all i nneded to know

modbox_ and deadlokIV you guys must have misunderstood me - i only mentioned the tsop flash to make clear that i'll be locking the hdd on a hardmodded box

i want to avoid using xboxhdm so i won't have to pull my pc apart - personally i think it's very easy to flash a new eeprom with config magic to setup and lock the new hdd in one step and then plug that hdd into my softmod box

why go to the hassle of using xboxhdm if I don't have to?

Because it's a lot less riskier than swapping eeproms.....not to mention it only takes like 15 minutes to do for a full rebuild with Xboxhdm. In your case, you can format and copy files to the HDD in your TSOP'd Xbox and then use XboxHDM to lock it (that's what I would do).

Heh, yeah i got confused with the second post, and after reading your post...slowly..i have deducted two things:

1. i am an illiterate whore. tongue.gif
2. G0t M4xx 21 is right.

But guys woah! If he wants to upgrade the HDD, can't he just:

1. use a backed up hdd key from the softmodded xbox
2. transfer tht to a boot-cd (with a dash & config magic), and the new hdd plugged into the TSOP box
3. boot the cd on the TSOP box, rebuild the new hdd with the dashes FTP feature, and then lock it with configmagic and the stored hddkey
4. put this new hdd into the v1.6

I swear that will work but correct me if im wrong lads wink.gif

Some people (like me) just don't wanna take apart their pc's all the time.

HD Bays are pretty handy for this if you do alot of hd upgrades. I dont need to take my pc apart, just slap it in the bay, and reboot. to the cd! Cheap too, only 6 bucks on ebay.

If you build the cd without an eeprom, you can supply it from a floppy. No need to burn multiple xboxhdm CDs.

That's true i always setup a new hd with a chipped xbox. Although to be sure the eeprom works you could only edit the hdkey to the virgin xbox hdkey with configmagic leaving the actual eeprom as it is.
