biggrin.gif . Norton Antivirus doesnt delete the files, it quarantines them! cant answer for mcafee, but you have a good chance on that EEPROM.bin wink.gif

EDIT: that is, if norton got rid of it, and not your dad!(how long has it been since you had it, i have recovery software if it wasnt long ago.(i'm sure you know the limitations of recovery software tho)

the truth - the fonts don't 'protect' from updates. the update screen that displays when updating the dash uses the original MS fonts, being as these are not present in font exploits (i.e UDE, UXE etc) then the update simply crashes. so in a way it sorta offers protection, but not as its intended function. the whole reason of the virtual C was to allow updates and such.

xboxbunny - in future, when reverting to stock, just replace the entire contents of the C drive with the contents of your backup. much easier and will not result in these sorts of errors. is it possible to find out what dash version you have through live or something? all you need is a game/dvd that requires a newer version than the one you are using, that will solve the problem. if by chance you have the latest version, then you will just have to wait for a newer dash to be released then update to that. can i add that if you unplug your xbox from this point on, then you will be forced to open your xbox as the clock will become unset.

yes total_ass, i know this, that it was a side effect of the actual fonts themselves. hince i put (causing a crashing of the M$ update). i ment that maybe the fact of update.xbe being the dashboard(dont even know which version of update.) is the reason for this crash. i'll admit, i doesnt seem as though it would matter, seeing how he says the hacked fonts are not present. which led me to believe it is the file itself, or it is because the fonts ARE still there.

ok i apologise, i misunderstood.

im not sure how MS indentifies the dash version you have installed. it could either be by checking the xboxdash.xbe, or by looking at the xboxdashdata folder. perhaps you are right, and when it checks xboxdash.xbe and cannot compare it to an xboxdash.xbe that belongs to a dash in their database, it crashes.

Ok sorry for resurrecting an old topic, But will a modchip fix this if it boots up its own OS? Because if it would that would give me ftp access then I could refix it....
also if this would work can you suggest a good modchip that would work like, I think it would? Oh yeah and solderless?

posting in the modchip forums might be a better idea for modchip suggestions....i don't really know much about them. if you did put one in, then yes, you could boot an evox cd and fix your hard drive from there.

i don't know why you don't just hotswap the hard drive though, i think that would be easier/cheaper

hotswapping tut

i basicly did the same thing u did, i renamed evoxdash.xbe to evox.xbe and i had no dashboard and would jus sit there. so i took my HD out, put it in xboxhdm, unlocked it, then remade c:, and now its fine. but if u dont have ur eeprom then idk
