Just finished up with this softmod the other day, was pretty easy to use and seems to work great so far (boots and plays originals, and boots and plays a copy I made to test it). FTP setup was a cinch, and wiring in a USB connection into the break away cable was pretty straight forward aswell. Thanks alot for making this installer Krayzie. Two thumbs up from the squirrel.

Next thing on my 'to do' list  is going to be replacing the harddrive with a 120Gb Maxtor.

Quick question here for anyone knowledgable, I'm using UnleashX dashboard right now, and in the system settings, it shows the hdd info with some hexidecimal numbers and a long string of numbers (probably 30-40 digits & numbers). Are these the lock/unlock info I'll need when I build the new harddrive in the computer?

And I've read a half dozens tut's here and on other forums, is there one good definitive tutorial out there for upgrading the harddrive without hotswapping?

I purchased this controller to usb cable (I purchased it for about $5 shipped on ebay):

http://cgi.ebay.com/...8195335077&rd=1

Downloaded and installed the Action Replay XBox PC Software v1.31 - UPDATED: 07/30/2004 at their site:

http://us.codejunkies.com/home_downloads.a...=$&r=0&l=1

Purchased a used Official Xbox Memory Unit (I purchased for about $8 shipped from someone off of another forum), I believe Madcatz works great too.

When plugging in controller to usb cable (with attached xbox controller plus memory card), it will ask to look for the drivers, point it towards the newly installed action replay folder where the drivers are located, then your system can detect it.  I'm using WinXP.

Make sure the gamesave is still zipped.  Start up the software, drag and drop the zip gamesave to the xbox memory card section and it should upload to the memory card, it should take about a minute or little less.

Voila!  You now have it on your memory card.

Now just transfer it to your xbox hard drive and do the exploit via preferred xbox game.

Note:  I did the 007 one, so it was only one file.

About Xlive:

I had to disable the mod to create an xlive account (using 2 month free subscription with my Halo2), then activated the mod again.  Proceeded to cold boot Halo2 to see if it will work without having to disable the mod.  It worked perfectly and I was able to log on without any problems.  After done testing/playing, ejected the disc and the evox screen popped back up.

Now all I want is to make XBMC my default dashboard (currently in applications of evox), ...still reading up on this.  Also reading up on how to install emulators too.

Overall very impressed with Krayzie's 2.8 installer, when I first saw it out with Xlive capabilities, I purchased my first Xbox.  Also my first time doing the softmod and it was a 100% success.  Thanks very much to Krayzie for making this so easy.

EDIT:  Also wanted to add that I immediately ftp'd the backup eeprom to my pc after completing the mod, before installing xbmc, new skins, and testing burned games.

anyone replace their dash with AVA, i thought i read some peeps had some trouble doing this B4, is it as simple as renameing AVAdash.xbe to what ever UX is named and it will boot, also is it better since ava and ux both use xml config files to swap ava for ux rather than install evox and swap ava with that

Must have been 6 months now since I made up my mind to softmod.
Here I am with a 1.6PAL, which from what I read is the most obnoxious XBOX, this was my softmod and it was easy as anything, many thanks Krayzie, very 1337.

hey i installed 2.8 on my friends 1.6 xbox (probably 1.6b; its about 4 months old) and when he ftps, he sees an H drive and he doesnt see his D drive when the disc tray's closed.  he can open up the D directory by typing D in the address part of the ftp, but he cant see it in the list.  how come?  and what is the H drive about?  thanks again krayzie.

well D is the dvd drive so a disk has to be in to see anything, H is because he has a memory card plugged into a controller so what ever is seen on H is from the memory card

the shadow C is active as soon as the installer finishes and the xbox is rebooted. you can see if it is good when there are no files like bertm, ernie and nkpatcher on there.
