Can't help you with your problem, but I could only get Xlink Kai to work. I had to forward port 30000 UDP to my Xlink Kai Server and in Sygate Personal Firewall, disable driver level protection.

it's sort of a gray area to tell you the truth...some people say they boot up from a retail game disc (which loads before xboxdash.xbe which means that your box never actually gets modded on that power on) and go on live and don't get banned....others say that they've tried this and it got them banned. going on live with a softmod is sort of a crapshoot now.

the only sure way not to get banned is to unmod your box before you go on (a softmod installer/uninstaller makes this a bit easier)

on this note....supposedly the theory is that they check the hashing of the xboxdash.xbe file...but having stuff on the E or F drive wouldn't be a problem would it?

also, would having a 2nd hd that was stock connected to your xbox on a switch allow you to get onto live? as in if i hit the switch to connect to the stock drive, then booted up, would i be alright? i can't see how ms would detect some tampering with the ide cable...but i figured i'd just ask

I have been pondering these same questions lately.

I have done a bit of research into the whole softmod-online factor and found the only same way is to have a clean hd and no chip on.

I have yet to try this tactic, so it's all theory... or common sense.

Still though....

Does the HD have to be totally clean? (nothing on E:, F:, C:(no bad files))

Should I go so far as to delete my exploit's game save?

After thinking about this for the last ten minutes, I've decided that there's really no reason why using some sort of switch wouldn't work.  Is there such a thing as an IDE cable and/or power cord switch?  It would be nice if I could just put a splitter on the cable and power cord and run it outside the box somehow, with the option of plugging in the stock drive and flipping a switch to run XBL.  I'll do some shopping around to see if anyone even sells such a switch.

I got two drives in my xbox.  So the case would close, the second HD is an IBM laptop HD 80GB.  Sits right on top of the stock HD.  I put a DPTP switch in the rear of the xbox.  Made my own IDE cable.

The tutorial I used is at Llama.com:

Works like a charm.

Hope this helps

You can use this tutorial to get the ide cable to the back, my other xbox is setup this way since laptop HDs are expensive.

Follow this for an extra connector on an IDE cable
http://www.xbox-scen...nnector-ide.php

Then buy two removable HD bays, and let it sit on top of the xbox:

Don't cut anything on your xbox.  All I did was bend the aluminum teeth looking things on the cover of the xbox and it closed fine.  You will figure it out once you have your cable.   This is even an easier method.  Removable drive bays are cheap.  Swap to stock for live swap to modded for your apps and homebrew games.

If you didn't have a splitter, you wouldn't be able to power only one HDD at a time, you'd be powering both at a time, which would cause conflicts.

I just used a y cable for power , only one will be powered at a time since you need to lock the hd removable case with a key to give it power.  Just make sure only one case is locked at a time.  Unlock to kill power to it.  Lock the case you wanna power on.
