Xboxhdm Frozen Troubles...
« on: January 14, 2005, 10:08:00 PM »

now i've successfully upgraded a hd's before using xboxhdm, but this time i have seemed to run into some difficulty. apparently when going to lock the hd i receive a security error: hd frozen. i do have the eeprom in the correct place and know that's not the problem.

and just to be sure, i set up the hd on the Primary IDE Channel; with the hd on master and the cd rom drive on slave correct?

now as far as the drive frozen error that i am recieving,  how do i overcome this? is there a certain setting in the BIOS that i need to change?

and for reference, the hd is a WD600BB. the drive is listed as locking compatible. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Try turning the HD setting to NONe in the PC BIOS.

well no luck with the frozen drive. we decided to just try it the old fashioned way and give it a clone.

well everything went fine, hd unlocked, cloned in windows using winhex, used liveinfo and the eeprom to generate a new password for the hd. reboot and try locking the new hd first: Not Lockable. so we try it with hdlock as apposed to unlockx: Device Not Ready. now we did this on both the new hd and the original xbox hd; both with the same results.

and the way were doing it is putting the hd (only the hd, no other IDE devices) on the Primary IDE channel, set to master.

what could be causing this? and if anything, should the original hd lock?

I love VM Ware, no burning disks, no unnesscary hardware gets loaded, everything goes smooth.

Most BIOS do have the HD=NONE settings, depending on the type of BIOS it is.

Try + or - or F5 or F6 or Page UP or Page Down buttons to change the value.

Same problem with Frozen Drive in a Gateway 310 Series, even changing BIOS settigns, but locked succesfully in my other real computer with Phoenix BIOS, but, it was with Autodetection, maybe is about the Auto mode allowing to modify values in this board.

I'm thinking on vmware, getting my RelaXserver down to lock hard drives, does not really like to me, so better use the vm, it has a phoenix BIOS too...
