While trying to write shell scripts for ldots XboxHDM i figured i could just update the whole thing while killing 2 birds with 1 stone.. It will use Xebian and boot from your PC..

Features:

All XboxHDM fuctions
Lock Unlock tools same kernal
PC Hard drive support (fat32 and NTFS) for logs and to copy files over.
All Xebian features browsing intenet (good for looking at the tutorial as your doing it)
Xebian install on xbox HDD

If this is somthing wanted i wanna know before i spend alot of time trying to combine these two..

ldots and ed have made 2 great tools for the xbox i plan to make their tools work together for easiler install and more advanced options..

Any ideas, quetions, or comments?

Agreed.. Only have to burn the CD once if the files are updated you could install them right off the PC also if someone manually type's inthe hddkey it will save a log to the windows system IF THEY HAVE IT MOUNTED!

I think this would be great since xboxhdm does not currently work on my pc because of the bios.  I definitely say Yes!

Not sure if this will help all of the instances of XboxHDM not loading, that usually is a problem with the PC BIOS options.

I'm going to try my best.. If there's any programmers that know shell and would like to help. More than welcome to help..

I'm going to see if i can find some prewritten shell script for the auto sense mounting unless someone wants to donate a shell scripting boot to me.. Otherwise i'm going to do alot of reading online on how to do this.

this would be difficult to implement on most recent systems - Linux cannot properly "write" to NTFS filesystems yet. if there is a 20 byte blank file there... it can edit the contents just fine but it can't make new files, make files bigger, delete files (i think) etc...

Naw not at all i ran across

http://www.desktop-linux.net/ntfs.htm

Seems to be a good linux driver for ntfs with great read/write properties.

Keo is correct, the latest ntfs linux driver is stable, and can correctly write to ntfs v5+ partitons.

How do you plan to run Xebian, a distribution designed for the Xbox, on a PC?

You mean Debian?

Lol, whatever.

A few comments :

1. linux driver CANNOT write to NTFS, only OVERWRITE.

2. There is a captive NTFS driver which use the native Windows driver(thunk/wrap in technical term) that can write to NTFS. This requires you to either detect where is ntfs.sys on the booting system or distribute it(copyright infringement)

3. it is not difficult to automate sensing the HD presence. Take a look at KNOPPIX's initrd and its init script.

However, I don't see why you need Xebian. Start with KNOPPIX would be easier if you want a full feature linux for PC. Afterall, you only need the script/program to do the lock/unlock for an Xbox HD.  You don't even need FATX driver as that is not safe in 2.6 kernel which is needed for lock/unlock.

I'm giving a presentation on xbox-linux in march.. I was trying to find a really easy way to install linux on the xbox.. Xenbian would be perfect for this becuase it has all the files right there.. Plus it already support's the Xbox and the PC.. (rather than memory card or ftp helps if you xbox doesn't read td-cw's like mine)

Yes you can boot the xbox cd in your PC and it WILL RUN! While i was tring to make this work i thought hey why not make XboxHDM features..  So chimp your saying this isn't really possible? My UXE autoinstaller works fine in 2.6 it mounts and writes to fatX that isn't a good idea? I've yet to have problems with it.

This driver is provided as a free download from m$. wink.gif
