yeah dudes i know all about quantitative computing. i know 1,000kb isn't a meg and so on. but using a file manager called boxplorer it shows the C drive as 499 mb, i suppose it just assumes 499,000,000 = 499 meg.

cheers, ill do that.

by the way anyone know an alternative method of formatting other than slayers? like a few lines that could be added to unleashx or evox that would allow me to format shadow c?

want to get it running in the next few mins, not enough time to download and burn slayers.

edit: you cannot format the virtual C if it's not mounted. that's why you need to prep the shadowc file before putting it in your save. this includes formatting, installing the MSdash and your homebrew dash

huh? the whole reason why iwant to format the c drive is to make my blank file fatx compatible. the file has been mounted at c but cannot be written to as its just blank.

I noticed something about this whole setup.
Everything went fine. Shadow c: loads, and I can only see real c:\ via pbl.
OK. My dash is located on real c:\fonts\dashboard\default ( via devz3ro's latest)

I adjusted nkpatcher, everything loads. HOWEVER, any changes I try to make to my dash don't save, ie skins, editing the xml, etc. EVEN WITH PBL LOADED.
This means any little setting change I want will need to be made via ftp.

Any suggestions?

remember the dash loads of the virtual C and not the hidden actual C. So even if you want it to be on C it will always show up on the ftp even with the shadow C active. If you load pbl to test or adjust you will need a Dash on the real C also but that is not the same dash as on the virtual C so any changes made to one of them should not apply on the other. the nkpatcher dash bootpath should always be harddisk0\partition2 and not partition8 or something. So xbox games should always be able to "find" them. (if they wanted to!?!"). Putting it on E or F or even G (if you have one) would work also ofcourse.

Since the image file is hidden and cannot be access, how can we unmount the shadowc?

Yeah, we can access the real C by running pbl, but the option to delete shadowc.img is not there anymore since it is in partition 8.

I'm not sure if I understand this, but from what I gather, it would be possible to have a dash that, when told,  uses nkpatcher to load a clean c drive image, eeprom and/or stock kernel, therefore allowing xbox live.
Could it even also mount, when told, images of stock games from the HD, and pretend that they are in the dvd-rom?  Therefore using xbox live with backups? Would it have to be a specially ripped image?

Or am I missing something here....such as the kernel/eeprom or something would have to be changed in a way that would get you banned from live.

it could certainly load a clean eeprom and c drive....but i'm not sure where you pulled clean kernel out of...you'd still be running a patched kernel so you'd get banned. no questions asked.

as for running backup games on live...don't even ask about it. the big wigs here that would be able to do it if it were possible have explicitly stated that they will not try to write a program that would allow backups on live. so unless you plan on making one yourself, don't even consider it a possibility

edit: not to be an ass, but this question has been answered a million times before so please use the SEARCH button before you ask a question. the less junk/repeat we have on the forums, the easier it will be for everyone to get answers

Ooohh, wait.  I had to read the tut like a billion times.   But let me get this straight
When compiling my nkpatcher, if I was to put the the dashboard on c\dashboard\default.xbe, I would have 2 instants of the dashboard correct?  One, being on the real c and one on the shadow c.  So, say I was to accidentally wipe out my entire shadow c drive (while I am in shadow c drive).  This will still entail me to use a slayer disk to do a recovery right?

So all n' all, I will always have a backup without (cross your fingers) having to resort in opening the xbox and using xboxhdm.
