- ConfigMagic cannot backup the EEPROM after hotswapping if the new drive is not properly formatted. Thus resulting in a hang.
- As krayzie pointed out the drive would be empty and unformatted afterwards so there would be no way to boot it.
BUT some scenarios exist in which this could work in your advantage.
i.e.
You have a HDD locked with EEPROM A.
Your current XBOX has EEPROM B and HDD locked with EEPROM B
You 'could'
- put EEPROM A on XBOX B
- Start ConfigMagic and overwrite EEPROM B with EEPROM A
- Hotswap HDD's
- Refresh EEPROM Data
- Unlock HDD locked with EEPROM A
This i've done before.
But to conclude and for the most part agree with krayzie on this:
Knowing that it's technically possible may give you an advantage in some very weird scenario.
This scenario however is very unlikely to occur and other methods are far more better and stable.
Hotswapping on a softmodded XBOX is not only extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. It is also very unwise since it's a more tedious and difficult method.
I cannot think of any concrete scenario in which case this could help you.
(Maybe if you don't have a PC at hand and a backup of the 'other' EEPROM on your current XBOX HDD. But when will that ever happen?
