Ok, I'm fairly new to softmods, and I'm just wondering if this method of hot-swapping would work at all. I'm thinking that I want to do this soft mod. I would like to be able to do this because HDD_driver is from what I read to be very buggy, and I don't want to risk any data corruption, and I'm lazy and don't want to take apart my computer to do a hot swap B)

This would be the setup:

1.) Unmodded Xbox is turned on, and it's IDE cable removed when the hard drive unlocks.
2.) The IDE cable is unplugged from the modded Xbox's hard drive and is plugged into the unmodded Xbox's hard drive (Of course, the modded Xbox is on already).
3.) FTP in to the modded Xbox like just like normal, and place the required files where they are supposed to go.
4.) Plug the hard drive back into the newly soft modded Xbox.
5.) Reboot, and success.

It's pretty much doing the same thing as an Xbox-PC hot swap, only the files are added through FTP and not directly to the hard drive. Would this work like I am hoping? If I'm missing something obvious, sorry for my ignorance! It just seems like a better way to hot swap to me.

you can easily hotswap to a modded xbox with a boot cd (with correct ftp settings).
Timing is a crucial factor though. You need to plug in the ide cable in the unlocked hd right after the dvd drive check on the modded xbox.

I'm trying this today,need some guidance correct me if i'm wrong.
This is how i'm planing do this:
I get slayer 2.5 and extract it edit the evox.ini and set a static ip.Rebuild the iso and burn.
Now i open both xboxes "modd" an "unmodd".I load slayers cd with the static ip on the modd then i turn on the unmodd and let it load to the dash,i unplug the modd IDE hdd ,i un plug the unmodd IDE hdd and quickly connect the IDE from the modd to the unmodd.
First a run the back up option an ftp into the unmodd backing up the eeprom.bin and all the files in c: in case i fuck something up.

Later i can ftp in my ready exploit. UXE-complete in ths case.

I've hotswapped with pc using xbhdm 1.9 and works like a charm,but i need to get into the memory menu in the unmodd,don't really know why this matters,as far as i know the hdd is unlocked as soon as the small text appears under the big X after boot up.
Some claim the pulling out the dvd ide keeps the hdd unlocked,and other say that copying an audio track and play it for a while does the trick....

I'm using this option cause i belive it's much safer since i don't have a way to backup the eeprom.bin in xbhdm.

I have the DVD window mod on my modded XBox. When I power on the Xbox without a disc in it, I see that the laser bumps into the motor in the middle three times. Then, the hard drive has about two seconds of activity. Is this the DVD drive check, followed by the unlocking of the hard drive?

yeah you need to plug in the ide cable in the "unlocked" virgin drive at the last part of the dvd activity right before the hd activity begins.
