wafflezone & company,

Because of the problem SIN has brought to the scene (yes in it's very short existance) I see most of you are trying to correct it's mistake. I am very happy to see most of you stepping up, showing your intelligence doing it the proper / correct way without formatting the user's hard drive. The problem is: choice.

While it is always good to have flavors, too many flavors gets confusing. After SIN, Iriez has been flooded with packages that claim to be the successor of "ltools". He therefor has been forwarding them all to me for myself to make the decision whether which one qualifies to make it to the usual places and what ones don't.

Because I do not want to break any ones heart, and because my tastes are most likely way different than the average softmodder I am going to make this a public decision. After all the authors of these softmod packages get screen shots and a full description about how it works thoroughly I will make a poll (pictures & description included), pin it, and you can vote on it. You can kind of figure out the rest.

Always open to suggestions.

I agree devz3ro, not only will it limit it down to "the end users choice", but it will also help releave some strain on the usual places aswell. I am sure that they do not apperciate being flooded with "I got this new exploit installer.....", not to mention that for the speeds that a person gets from the usual places, the bandwith is probably not cheap either.

wafflezone:

I feel that the path you are taking is the most correct on this matter, expecially having "break points" in there to insure that the origional dash files are there before they get restored, and vice-vercia. Is it possable to script it so that it doesnt even ask the user? just have it abort on error with " origional dash files not found, restortion will not proceed. Please replace the origional C:\ files back into E:\backup (or whatever you had it as) and then try it again." This way, human error cannot play a part on someones "button-mashing" tring to hurry through the process and still end up formating the C: and not having the backup there. Just an idea.

Unfortunately Unleash does not allow for if statements so I am unable to test for that sort of thing and hopefully if you're going to mess with the backups that my installer made, you wont run the backup restorers.

I struggled with the naming of some of the menus especially the backup menu. Obviously if when you install this package first, it's going to assume that your C drive is unmodded and put it in E:\backup\Unmodded\. I made a warning popup that tells you that. I wanted to use the more specific name "unmodded" but maybe i should change it to "original". If the backup in E:\backup\unmodded\ is indeed an original ms dash, you can restore it easily using my scripts and then look just like any other xbox when you log on to xbox live.

I have to say, i was appauled at the whole SIN incident. the stuff that that guy did was plain wrong.

but i stand behind wafflezone all of the way. unlike SLayerZ he is not claiming to have the "most super l337 installer eva!". he is making clear that it is not a rival of ltools, nor is it a successor in any way. he has put it through a decent amount of testing if you read his thread, and i myself believe that he deserves to have it put up to the usual places.

just my thoughts rolleyes.gif

I nominate actual knowledge and comprehension of the goals and process to be the official successor of ltools.. jester.gif

Waffle has some nice ideas, and his installer is quite stable.

He has some good intentions for sure, and instead of so many installers being created, it would be nice to see the ideas merged, and creating an even better installer.

Is trying to figure out how Ltools works to keep it updated bad?
Lol, hopefully it isn't, but thats what I'm working on.

I figure as long as there's under 3 packages on the softmod scene, that aren't completely 1-2-3 for the AOL moron, Canadian Tire Auto department kind of service, then its good. SIN kinda proved, well basically, if somethings stupidly easy people think that its foolproof.

And stupidly easy didn't work.
Hell it never does.
I get morons emailing me almost 24/7 asking how to do things like, play backups on Live with SIN, because it "isn't a modchip". I've had people try to argue with me about dumbass things like that.

Just, for fuck sakes, make sure that the installer tell the person to copy their EEPROM to their PC. I don't care what anyone says EEPROM failure is alot worse than losing your C drive, but too many people think backing up their EEPROM to a maximum security hard drive on a FATX filesystem is a good way to backup stuff.

amen to all of the above!.. just jumping on the band wagon... but i also like the idea of ricecake trying to add to ltools... as this can be the scene supported installer untill ltools gets up.. not to say that there is anything wrong with it... but we should try to keep "the place" to as few of packages as possible... wink.gif

Here is some detailed waffletools information. It has the UXE package directory tree and detailed script descriptions. I'll put up screenshots soon  laugh.gif

When you get impatient, you get sloppy, and start not careing about the work, but about the outcome, and fame.

While I agree, theres alot of trash at xbins, But in turn, I'm also thankful that its there.

So I take my time on there, and search for what I want. Like everyone else should.

In the time it takes to get on xbins, Prepare your help, and documentation. Show exactly what your installer does, and is there anyway to render your system useless on the option.

UnleashX support passwording options, make extremly dangerous options passworded.
