Error 21 On Softmod...
« on: December 10, 2004, 07:37:00 AM »

Well this is my friends xbox that I hacked for him because he knows nothing about this sort of stuff. So I hacked it for him, and gave it back to him with dvd2xbox and XBMC. He put a game on the stock HDD and then he wanted to put a different game on it and didnt know what to take off... So he deleted just about everything in the E drive. The C drive is not touched so it will still load games. But when I pop in 007 AUF and try to run the gamesave off the memory card (not on the HDD anymore) all it does it boot to error 21. I cant get to a dashboard at all so I cant fix it though ftp. He didnt back up his eeprom so I cant just tear it apart and fix it on my PC. Does the drive unlock in error 21 at all? Because I am willing to do a hotswap on his xbox. The only thing I could think of is to send it to someone to install a modchip. Since I cant solder I sent mine to someone from X-S to do my chip. I am almost sure that he deleted the bios on the E drive and it wont boot up right because the xboxdash.xbe is pointed there.

You can force an error 12, which will unlock the drive for about 15 seconds.

Pull the IDE ribbon from the dvd, leave the yellow cable hooked.
Leave the ide ribobn to the hd, and wait until the white MS appears, then preform the hotswap.

It takes time & practice.

Next time backup the eeprom for him and place it on a XboxHDM cd and you wont have this trouble.

It's normal that it error 21 on any dash upgrade. You should be thankfull it did otherwise you would have a broken xbox now. If you want to upgrade your dash for some reason you can use the new virtual c feature built in the nkpatcher 8.1. Make sure to put back the old fonts in the C image.

... I fscking Love you! that trick saved me from a botched up hotswap I was doing to fix an error 16 problem I had after a UDE2 install. While doing the hotswap I failed to plug in the orginal IDE cable to the HDD, I ended up powering down the xbox then remembered that I should have reconnected the orginal IDE cable to the HDD... :idiot: So that left me with a error 21 and a locked HDD (confirmed with Xboxhdm)

So to make this clear again... I'll send you some Russian Brides or something XD
