You don't need to ghost it....just buy a new hard drive and use it. Leave the original stock and put it in the closet.

So let me see if i have this correct after re-reading some of the threads here...

I need to exploit the xbox to get ftp.

Copy the HDD  key

take a new drive and use xboxhdm to format

copy ltools to drive

swap HDD

lock HDD with key and i'm good ????

Ghosting works. But one must unlock it first.

Obviously, I apologize for my wording. I figured the sentence "Of course once you have access to the drive, you can unlock the drive with certain tools that are widely available, but in it's stock state, a mirror image is impossible" cleared that up, but I guess not. Ghosting will never work on a xbox that is stock (no modifications to hardware or software).

Hi,

(Im sorry for my poor english)

***NOTE: I HAVE UPDATED MY ORIGINAL POST BECAUSE WHEN I WAS READING IT I FIGURE A BETTER IDEA***

This problem (Error 21) occurs on XPLOIT modified xboxes with every Original game that comes in Original "Compilation" discs.  Games such Tetris/Clone Wars,  TopSpin/Amped2,  TopSpin/NCAA and maybe others are affected. (appears to be related to CDX software used to create the initial menu)

I am trying to workaround this issue making direct menu "shortcuts" to the games  contained on the compilation disc.

Doing a Shortcut on the dashboard to every possible game (like d:\amped2\default.xbe, d:\topspin\default.xbe) could be very easy, but I am trying to do it "Universal" so with a simple method could work with every "Compilation" disc

First, I use Unleash X as my mainly dashboard on every installation that I do so I will explain my method to play compilation discs on UnleashX but similar method could be applied to do it on evox and maybe avalaunch (I dont use avalaunch so I dont know)

Steps FOR UNLEASHX:
1) Create a dummy file on your XBOX ROOT DRIVE "C" called "c:\dummy.xbe" you can create this one transfering a text file from your computer or using any other NON XBOX EXECUTABLE (do not use an .xbe please) file, also, consider this: the smaller file = the better (for space saving purposes)

2) I turned "AUTOLAUNCH GAMES = NO" on config.xml

3) I have added the following code to config.xml
<List Text="Games on Compilation Disc" Sort="On" Auto="On">
  <Item Action="c:\dummy.xbe">1 - Refresh</Item>
  <Path>D:</Path>
</List>

Now I will explain:
The step "1" is for create a dummy file (use a non .xbe file please) that will not run but will force a "refresh" on unleash (and maybe on any other dashboard)

The step "2" it is only to avoid launching the compilation game automatically when it is inserted on the xbox (duh).

The step "3" is a little more complex, first the user must insert the compilation disc, wait until led stops blinking, then the user uses the added option "1 - Refresh" to launch the fake dummy executable and when the dashboard returns (after the failed execution) the line marked with "<Path>D:</Path>" makes its job putting available the games that comes in the compilation disc. And then the user selects the game that wants to play and ta da !!!

I know this is pretty rudimentary, I have used a dummy fake executablefile because I was not able to find any other way to make a "Forced Refresh" on Unleashx.  If anybody has any better idea, be my guest.

Side-effects:
1) The playing of compilation discs it is not a simple "insert disc"
2) The application contained in the compilation disc called CDX also appears like an available game (but this is the one that crashes with error 21).

of course (as rich568117 says) dont leave the compilation disk on the dvd tray when you turn on or restart your xbox

Any better idea?

Moderators: If this workaround is useful please extract it from this tread and pinn it....  (it is my dream to appear with a solution pinned, thanks)

I am trying to be able to access the msdashboard from evox.  I renamed the original dashboard msxboxdash.xbe.  I then edited the 4 occurences of f.o.n.t.s to f.0.n.t.s:

%.s.f.0.n.t.s.\.X.b.o.x.x.t.f
f.0.n.t.s.\.....H.G.G.o.t.h.i.c.M...x.t.f
y.:.\.f.0.n.t.s.\.X.b.o.x.x.t.f
y.:.\.f.0.n.t.s.\.X.b.o.x. .B.o.o.k.x.t.f

I have the original font files in c:/f0nts and I have evox setup in the evox.ini:

#AudioPlayer = "c:msxboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "c:msxboxdash.xbe"

Section "Root"
{
Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash

So i transferred the hacked msxboxdash.xbe to the root of the c: drive.  When i tried to load the ms dashboard, it gave me the service error (error 21).  Do i need to sign the xbefile with xbedump? What could I have done wrong?  BTW, the original font files on my unmodded xbox were located in two directories... one set was in c:\ and the other was in c:\fonts, yet they are different sets (their file sizes are different than the other set).  Which set should I be putting in the c:\f0nts directory? I have tried both to no avail, but I should know when I actually figure out what I have done wrong.

Yes.  Sign with either habbi, font, or audio - it doesn't matter - it simply restores the XBE section checksums.

The two retail fonts in C:\ were used by the pre-live Dashboards (<= D:4817) and are no longer required.
The two retail fonts in C:\fonts are used by the post-live Dashboards. (D:4920+)

When I attempt to sign the xbe file, I get the following entries that could be incorrect:

Header Size:           fail
Section:  0 Hash:     fail -> corrected
Section: 14 Hash:    fail -> corrected
XBE file integrity:     FALSE !!!!!!! FALSE !!!!!

What does this mean? Did I incorrectly hex-edit the file, retrieve an incorrect original xboxdash file, or other?

The xbedump error message is a known bug in xbedump - the out.xbe produced will still work.

I was wondering if there was an update to the live packages that were discussed earlier in this topic. I am highly interested in this and was curious of development.

instead of using the ID MSDash command in your Evox.ini why not just make an item in your list called MS dash, and point it to c:\orgxboxdash (or whatever the file you hexedited is called.... then you dont have to worry about it...
Something like this,....

Item "MS Dashboard","c:\org-xboxdash.xbe"
and then it should work

tried it, but it is still not working... would anyone be willing to look at the dashboard files to see if I have hex-edited them correctly... i tried editing them myself and that didnt work, so i used ldots's font patcher program, and that didnt work either (I still get error 21).

Hey Guys

On previous older xboxes I just used ltools via 007 hack to gain FTP Access..

Just want to confirm i copy all files from c: to my PC then delete them from the Xbox .. copy the contents of the 71 folder into C: then reboot and thats it ?

1.6 Crystal PAL

No region needs to be changed?

No bios etc needs to be loaded using ltools etc? It does seem stupidly easy.. so much so that im worried!

Thanks.

I dont have Any experience with the dash you are using, but I know with Evox, it was as simple as adding a line that went like this...
Section  "Launch Menu"
   {
                 AutoAdditem "d:\"
               }
Then when the disk is inserted Evox will automatically display the choices (In my case it was CDX, Topspin or NCAA Football... )
The trick here is to simply not hit CDX!! smile.gif

There was the problem of course where Evox has to be reloaded after the disk is inserted to be able to see the menu, so I simply Made the link to load the game go to ANOTHER copy of Evox, and then THAT copy had the actual section in the INI that Auto Adds anything in D:
Works like a charm, Oh and a friend of mine also found that with Avalaunch its a lot easier, becuase you dont have to reload, just go over to the CD icon in the corner after inserting the disk and it will do the same thing.... (I however and stubborn, and I refuse to switch to anything else, because I am a creature of habit smile.gif )
