Remember: As long as your system clock is set, d:\default.xbe is always loaded first.

What happens if the system clock isnt set, or the xbox has been disconnected from the main power for a period of time?

Devz3ro / RMenhal

First of all excellent job on the UXE complete package! Im pretty new to soft moddin' and this has sorted me out a treat!! (I used to do TSOP flashes up until the 1.6 xbox came about)

I had a question that hopefully you (or somone else) could maybe help me out with.

I have installed the UXE (71 package) successfully on my xbox. I have an upgraded 120GB disk, and the patched (f0nts) MSdash. Everything is working smoothly. All apps/games recognised from the evox menus as well.

Because everything is so hunky-dory, i have now cloned my 120gb for 3 friends and then locked the HD's (according to everyones unique eeproms). And this is all going great.

But what i am worried about is that is there any chance of these xboxes messing up in anyway!! (no-one plays live - so that is not an issue).  But from what i understood in the threads, would the exploit stop working if someone was to change any of the settings in the MS Dash??

Also i dont have any of the s.xtf files that rmenhal was talking about? (because i followed the UXE instructions) Would this prevent any hanging issues? and if so then where would i place these files? In fonts or f0nts?

Hope this all makes sense, but im getting a bit confussed by all this.

I look forward to your replies/posts

If you use the kernel specific fonts, they shouldn't be effected by someone changing their Dashboard settings.

Also, the s.xtf only effect the generic fonts (and , yes, they go along side the explot fonts - same folder).  So if you go kernel-specific these don't feature.

The XBOX tries to boot C:\xboxdash.xbe instead - in order to present you with the Dashboard's "set clock" screen.

Pedro, changing dashboard settings can make any font hang, generic or kernel-specific. The kernel-specific fonts add reliability elsewhere. The little free 2 and 3 unit memory blocks also must be got rid for the fonts to work, that's the reason for s.xtf files.

Oh.  Ok.  Thanks for correcting my misinformation biggrin.gif

Question is UXE better than UDE2 if you DO NOT have a PAL xbox?

For region 1 US users? No.
For package makers, providing for a worldwide audience? Yes - only one package to provide/maintain.

You don't need to ghost it....just buy a new hard drive and use it.  Leave the original stock and put it in the closet.

I'm real new to softmoding...as a matter of fact i've read alot of threads and still a little confused...LDots....UXE....UDE....I have a Halo Edition which i assume is a 1.6... i'm real concerned about making a brick out of it. but i have a question.....Could I Ghost my HDD and use the new drive to make all these mods..leaving the original intact.??? I'm not sure that ghost would recognize xfat but could i use the bit by bit option in Ghost??? anyone have a suggestion to do what i'm asking using Ghost or not ....just looking to not modify the original HDD....

Any help this Noob could get would be appreciated

Ghosting will never work.

Each xbox hard drive is locked with a unique HDD key to prevent use in anything other than the xbox it was meant for. Of course once you have access to the drive, you can unlock the drive with certain tools that are widely availiable, but in it's stock state, a mirror image is impossible (that I know of, I would love for someone to prove this wrong smile.gif)

Easiest and cheapest way I have found was:

007 Agent under fire (used) $7 at gamestop
Action Replay (new) $25 at gamestop [possibly much cheaper used]

This way you can mod any xbox console (yes 1.6 & 1.6b included) without opening it up, keeping the warranty intact if anything ever goes wrong.

Ghosting works. But one must unlock it first.

I want to use this exploit but I don't want to use evox.  I just need to replace the evox xbe with my avalaunch xbe, correct?  Do I need to habibi sign avalaunch?  Also, which xbe is it...is it ex.xbe?

Yes, that is correct.  No, you don't need to sign it and yes it is ex.xbe

Sweet, thanks for your help 4NIC8TOR!

Basically this is what I think is the easiest way..........

I have a fully loaded 120gb with all apps and games on and with the UXE 7.1 package all working sweet.

For all my friends xboxes all i do is clone my drive with Norton ghost (using the /IR command) and then lock it for each respective xbox.

Works an absolout treat!
