Ltools Vs. Ude2-complete / Uxe-complete
« on: November 16, 2004, 12:48:00 AM »

To clear up the confusion that I see looking through the posts lately, I created the ude2-complete / uxe-complete kits as an alternative to ltools (by ldots).

The main reason why I made it so there was no access to the original dashboard is because of a few personal unhappy experiances I had with it. I do a lot of softmodding, local and remotely (over the internet) and the problem I have run across is memory layout changes.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this, but if you do something like set a parental password on the xbox (through the MS dash), most of the time the xbox will lock up and the exploit will no longer work due to the memory layout being changed. I'm sure there are a few other things you can do (such as change the xbox's main language) to make it not work also.

For a future release I was debating whether to make a "live-compatible-uxe-complete" kit. I would make 3 flavors which would benefit owners of the gamesave exploited games.

One for each: Splinter Cell (chocolate), Mech Assault (vanilla), and 007 AUF (strawberry). smile.gif

It would be a basic Evox script. What I had in mind was the following two options:

1. Backup original C to somewhere on E and copy exploit from gamesave directory to C
2. Restore original C for xbox live.

As of now I use something very similar, they don't seem to be scanning E, atleast not yet. I will take pedros advice and hide it in the st.db directory.

Only problem this could create is someone not having enough space on E. I like how ldots has the compress C to E option, but I don't want to force a reset after this is completed. I want a plain "enable" and "disable" with no 2+ steps for it to work.

Also, since the release of metoo 1.4.1, I might upgrade to that for the lba48 support, unless rmenhal can add this in the nkpatcher wink.gif

rmenhal: thanks for finally implementing those features btw smile.gif

Glad you cleared this up. Your right there have been alot of confusion regarding the difference between these two, and which one is easiest to use.

could you just confirm the following for me....

I have a splinter cell exploit (im not sure which one, but all it does is load a screen which gives you ftp access, it also plays any music you have on your xbox in the background) will this work on a 1.6 xbox? It worked on my 1.4 xbox. Reason idont know what it is, is a friend sent it to me when i didnt have a clue about sofmod'n.

Secondly with the UXE complete package.... once i have ftp access and i backup my C drive, All i do is copy the contents of one of the zip files to my c drive? (71 first) and then just reboot? and thats it?

Should be getting my new xbox today so will definatley be using this method. It seems so simple and easy. Could you just confirm that this is correct just so i dont end up with a very expensive (but sexy) crystal door stop! biggrin.gif

Oh and btw the uxe-complete-with-live package sounds excellent idea! how quick can we expect to see something like this? especially for SC seeing as ltools 1.8 SC has no date yet. There is a major need for a SC install.

Yes, just as the directions state. Everything you need is included, no extra files to patch etc.

Remember: As long as your system clock is set, d:\default.xbe is always loaded first. So if you screw up, you can always ftp back into the xbox as long as a gamesave with evox (or another dashboard with ftp support) is still on the xbox.

P.S. Since it would be very simple to write a Evox script to turn it on and off for live purposes I'll look at it when I get a chance later on today. Hopefully I will be able to release before tomarrow.

Maybe I'm stupid

I have had a hardware modded xbox for quite a while now and as such didn't have the need to learn about all these exploits however....

I have a friend who has bought the xbox crystal and wants to be able to play backups.
I downloaded uxe from the usual places and I'm a tad lost.
Do I not need to have a boot from media bios somewhere ?

Am I missing the point ?

You need to be able to FTP to the HD on your friends xbox so that you can delete the contents on the C:/ and copy over the UXE-Complete exploit.  You can gain ftp access by

Gamesave Exploit (you can read more on this here):
http://forums.xbox-s...hp?showforum=44

or if you have a solderless modchip you could throw your modchip in your friends xbox, install the UXE exploit and then take it back out.

I formatted my HD and imaged with Slayers 2.5, then i deleted everything from the c:/ and installed the Uxe-Complete.   Everything worked great but now i need to edit the evox.ini so that evox can see my apps/games.

Is there an easier way?  could i just copy the evox.ini from my slayers disk? or the evox xbe from the slayers?....

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The evox.ini is in c:\fonts, you can either edit or replace it.

About the memory layout changes and hangs .. is anybody using the s.xtf files? The purpose of those is to fill in the small 2 and 3 unit blocks before the hacked fonts are loaded.

To test, I just cycled through all language choices. Without any s.xtf files, UXE hanged with French, Italian and Korean. With one s.xtf, no hangs. With s.xtf, s2.xtf, ..., s7.xtf also no hangs.

If you use the s.xtf files: the maximum number of fonts (including bert'n'ernie) is 9. Also I recommend against changing file name lengths of these s.xtf files.

I want to use this exploit but I don't want to use evox.  I just need to replace the evox xbe with my avalaunch xbe, correct?  Do I need to habibi sign avalaunch?  Also, which xbe is it...is it ex.xbe?

devz3ro, is it possible to have the original MS Dash load as an app (from Evox)?

If so what files do I need to copy back from my C backup. I'm a little unsure about what to do with the original fonts.

Sorry for the delay, been busy @ work, but yes you can load the original dash from evox, you will need to put the original fonts into a directory other than fonts (we all use f0nts) and then hex the original dashboard's xboxdash.xbe. You will need to change all "unicode" instances of f.o.n.t.s to f.0.n.t.s

If its THC lite, there will only be 2 that you need to change, but the latest dashboards I think is for. I used hexworkshops to do mine. You can find it at www.bpsoft.com

P.S. I haven't forgot about the live kit, just havent had time, I will get around to it sooner or later.
