Xbox Live With Hotswap Softmod
« on: October 20, 2004, 01:43:00 AM »

MS can and will ban your eeprom from accessing Live when you go online with a modded xbox.

You can turn of the softmod by removing its files and restoring the original dashboard.
Afterwhich ofcourse your xbox is no longer modded and you would have to softmod it again (hotswap/gamesave method to gain access to hdd afterwhich you can put softmod back on)

Personally I suggest using your stock-hd for xbl.

This is what I also advice others for whom I softmod xbox's
Big hdd with softmod, games and apps + stock-hd for originals on xbl smile.gif

You can always put in a hard drive switch, using your stock hd for live, and another hd for the softmod, then you just put the switch in position and boot the correct hd.

Just put any original dashboard on their

Just like DaddyJ, delete all files on your stock-hd and put a dash on the c-drive
Nothing to it.
You will probably have a dash ready and waiting on your bigger hd.
Just make sure you use original files (as in: not tampered with)

@napkinn: I've read some of your other threads and posts ... if your friend had followed the steps in the UDE/UDE2+Live tutorial with you (in this forum) you wouldn't be in this situation eh!

(Maybe you can get your friend to re-do it accordingly, so you can recover your Live account to the new HDD before changing the retail dash this time eh?)

eh, you can recover on a new hdd with new retail dash also.
It's an option in the 'Live' part of the dash incase you may want to setup your account on a new xbox smile.gif

(@RolfLobker: that's what I was getting at (not very clearly I guess) but they didn't so he's been trying to do it via the hacked dash instead eh!)

Try excluding the word Live for starters
Or don't search at all but just go the PINNED TOPIC called TUTORIALS

I wasn't shouting. I noticed you have difficulties reading so I thought bold caps would make it easier for you  dry.gif

Put a retail dash on your stock-hd, re-enter your xbl-info and you're done.
(select 'recover account' from within the xbl-part of the dash)

I can't find the UDE/UDE2+Live tutorial when I search, no matter what I include in it.

It's within the pinned "Tutorials Here" post eh. wink.gif

When you transfer everything your xbl-info should also be transferred.
Just make sure you also copy the contents of the E-partition and not just the C-partition.

Personally I suggest the following:

1 Big hdd with exploit installed for offline gameplay (games and apps on hdd)
1 Stock-hd with no exploit or anything. Just retail dash so it will boot in an unmodded state.

Sidenote:
Put an unmodified retail dash on C-Partition and selecting 'recover account' would re-create the account on your hdd for you.

It is possible to run retail games on xbl with softmod installed since the xbox will boot the game prior to the dash. Resulting in an unmodified state when the game launches.

Personally I would STRONGLY advice against this for several reasons:

1) Don't take this the wrong way but I would trust you with my xbox.
Simply said: you seem like a newbie to me. Don't go playing russian roulette (again, no offence)
2) Apparently there's a banning-frenzy going on. MS CAN see the exploit on your hdd. They just didn't look yet. That does not mean they won't in the future.
3) Someone else might not take this into consideration and f*ck up your xbox
4) Automatical xbl-updates will frag your xbox
5) 1 slip-up and your dead.

If we copy it over correctly, will XBox live be copied as well, or do I need to somehow recover it, and how would I go about this?

That only gets brought forward if the original HDD is image/bitwise copied to the new one eh. wink.gif

(Two methods of recovering it the way you currently have things have already been provided, in previous replies to you eh! rolleyes.gif)

That's what I thought I was going to have to do, and I think it makes the most sense.

And I am a newbie, but everyone starts somewhere.  I'm just learning in a trial by fire.
