All XBEs are signed - dashupdate.xbe is no exception.
Or, when they're not, they currently serve no useful purpose that we know of, alas eh...

Pedro, hopefully people will pay attention when you say it.  I said the same thing on page 2. Didn't seem to get through to joop.

Making a dvd backup changes nothing about the media flag. The MS signature isn't valid on a copy. If it was, we woudn't need a chip or alternate bios. The hacked bios loads the xbe irregardless of the signature.

If I understand your post correctly, you are saying that copying an xbe automatically invalidates the signature.  This is not true.

Media flag in the header designates what type of media the xbe can be run from.  When you make a game backup, you are taking an xbe that's signed for "XBE_MEDIA_XBOX_DVD" and putting it on a media type that the xbe is not authorized to be executed from. It's not that the signature isn't valid.

QUOTE (tineras @ Oct 25 2004, 06:48 PM)
I am actually having the same problem.  I can no longer FTP to my xbox.  The MS dashboard loads instead of Evox.  The only way for me to load Evox is to use a disk.  Even then, I still cannot FTP to my Xbox.  I AM able to ping it though, so I know I have the right address.  I have never had the problem before until a friend of mine tried to play the Van Helsing DVD.

I first had this happen with the Star Wars extra features DVD...I didn't realize it was updating, so I popped the disk out...from then on msdash wouldn't load (call service center error)

So then I popped in the Van Helsing DVD...this time I recognized that it was doing some updating...but it said it was updating Xbox Live...I quickly removed the ethernet cable.

It finished updating, then booted to the menu (play game or move).

My modchip was on the entire time.

However I also have the problem where it auto loads to the msdash.

So I simply need to set it up again for my dash (XBMC).

FTP, off my boot CDs works just fine.

For those of you with FTP problems...try looking at the evox dash and see what ip address it has...mine changed...and some other evox disks have permanent IP addresses.

So in summary, it updated something on the dash, but it still works just fine with the modchip...and ftp still works.

Uh...well I just figured out that if I copy that default.xbe file to the hard drive...then the game runs...duh.
