Van Helsing Dvd
« on: October 19, 2004, 11:13:00 PM »

It has been reported that the DVD (movie) of Van Helsing has xbox content on it. I'm trying to add to the SW & Hulk collection, so could someone be kind enough to post what exactly is on the disk? If not I'll probably rent the DVD sometime tomarrow and do a report.

TIA

I expect the size of the dashupdate.xbe, above, means it requires a minimum of dash version 185ead00 (currently the XBL version) eh!

An enhanced backup of the HULK's has been exploited and can potentially be made bootable, but the retail disc itself hasn't been (and SWBF wasn't at all) eh.

(Edit: "exploited", for accuracy.)

Mine is NTSC, 1 disc with movie and demo on both.  I didn't see an auto update, and my dash's still work.  I had to turn off the chip for it to play the movie though.

i'm assuming because your chip doesnt load the ms dash correct?

can i ask what version of MS dashboard you were using before you put the disc in?

2 questions

1.) do these .xbe's link to the hd font files?
2.) could these .xbe's be used in a "homemade" dvd that will upload a hack

1.  if they are like the Hulk and SW files, yes, they get fonts from hdd only.

2.  upload a hack?  no, at least no way has been contrived yet and i doubt there ever will be...

What would happen to my xbox if I put these xbes on by accident? Would my dash stop working all together? Would I still be able to boot Itools to restore c:\ or would I need to use Xboxhdm?

I put in the Van Helsing DVD into my Xbox and it immediately did the auto-update.

To begin, I have been using the Retail Kernel dash for watching DVD movies.  I have a Xbox v1.4 with a Xenium ICE and running XOS 2.0.1 on it.

Back to issue.  As soon as I saw it was auto-updating, I freaked out, but there was nothign I could do, it had already started.  Dang.  It took a really long time for the loading bar to finish and then finally the menu to either play the demo or watch the movie came up.  I was able to watch the movie with no problems.

But I have a problem now.  I am unable to connect to my Xbox via FTP through a ethernet network.  When I turn on my Xbox and fire up Avalaunch, it tells me that their is no link.  Shoot!

Now what!?!  Anyway I can revive my Xbox to be able to connect to the ethernet network via my router?  The Xenium chip works just fine, I am able to boot into Avalaunch, XBMC, what have you, and the retail kernel dashboard works fine too.  The only problem is that I no longer have network capabilities, it wiped out my ethernet.  At the time it was auto-updating I had no ethernet cable hooked up, somehow I had forgotten to hook it back up from the last time.

Any help!!!  Please!  It would be appreciated.

Thanks.

dude, i don't think that your avalaunch problem has anything to do with the update. reinstall avalaunch or use xbmc to ftp.

It more than just Avalaunch.

I went through my network settings in the Xenium OS 2.0.1 and when I get to FTP settings, it shows some info, but some of it is zeroes.  So, I click on restart network, it tries for a half minute and comes back with a "failed to restart network" error.

I can't FTP in XBMC either.  Besides, I have to use Avalaunch, it has been the only dashboard that has allowed me to connect via FTP.  Don't know why, but all other dashboards don't let me connect via FTP.  I will say this, I use a Mac to connect.  The dashboards built-in FTP servers seem to be a bit fickle when I try to connect via FTP on my Mac.

What exactly did that auto-update do?  Where did it put the updated files?  Did it flash anything?

thanks.

It updates your ms dashboard files to the latest.  Worked fine on mine, using avalaunch.xbe (latest version).  Doesn't flash anything.  NO offense, but your not the smartest kid in these forums and you need to put your post in the BS thread, instead of this thread, it's people like you that makes me not wanna post here....
