Universal On/off Switch For Ude2

If you COULD do that, then no one would ever need a game exploit.

Edit: Yes you could, but you'd need another exploit installed, so what would be the point? Live still wouldn't work

You misunderstand.  You still need a game exploit, hot swap, XBOX HDM, or some way of getting the two exploits on the XBOX. What I want is a way to Turn it on after using evox to turn it off. This can be done using another exploit like for example easter egg on xboxes with kernel lower than 5713.

NOW, I want to be able to do it on > 5713 without having a MA or 007 and the mem card installer.

As to the part of changing the font path in update.xbe, well, if that can be done then you wouldn't need to hex edit the original dash. You would also retain access to the xbox live console from the games.

I saw in another thread a few days ago where they were going to attempt at least giving us access to the live console from the games. Right now UDE2 doesn't allow for this. I can't find that thread now. I wish I could.

Why wouldn't live work?

the easter egg exploit doesn't work on 5713 and 5838 kernels.

I don't think you understand the concept of the easter egg exploit. It is based on the loading of a pre live dash that ignores the fonts folder and uses the fonts from the root. Since the newer kernels not allow any dashes lower than 5659 you cannot use the easter egg exploit.

This should be possible.  With K:5713+, the EEE can't launch a legacy Dashboard - true - but it can launch a repurposed cut down HDD SC1 double-dash - and its Gamesav will get you back to Evox (etc.), from where you can turn UDE back on smile.gif.

Edit: Because the latest D:5960 C:\xboxdash.xbe validates the C:\xodash\xboxonline.xbe on boot, the SC1 double-dash is no longer any use as a double-dash exploit with that Dashboard.  However, the D:5960 doesn't validate the c:\dashdata...\setting_adoc.xip file. wink.gif

so... can we setup EEE to boot another copy of the main dash ... but rather just one that has had fonts changed to f0nts... so that instead the good fonts are in the "fonts" folder and the hacked fonts are in the "f0nts" folder so that EEE would boot a copy of the dash... but read the fonts out of a different folder?

That is actually a good idea pedrospad. That might be a nice switching ability for newer kernels. You must make sure to have the latest dash version though cuz any update would destroy the dashdata contents.

Nope - use EEE to boot SC1's HDD default.xbe.

I have all the pieces except SC1.

See here for NTSC HDD SC1, and here for PAL HDD SC1 smile.gif

It's funny; I thought people were already doing this.  I enjoy the research - I leave it to other to produce the packages, etc.

This EEE->to->HDD SC1 can also be used by PAL K:5713+ owners who don't want to change their XBOX's EEPROM region for UDE2 - it's not as nice, as it doesn't boot directly to EvoX, but at least they could still use their PAL game originals, thus XBL, etc.

This information/idea has been discussed in this forum some time ago (See here) - but the recent posts don't seem to indicate anyone using it.  (If I was a PAL K:5713+ XBOX owner - I'd certainly favour this over playing around with my XBOX's EEPROM regions - it's less invasive.)

then I realized that this must have been achieved before UDE2. Since UDE2 came along shortly after, most people jumped on that and forgot about this.

It was a fast moving week - lol  laugh.gif

isn't it much easier and faster to just make a rename script for only the files that need changing instead of formating and installing the whole C partition every time?

OK. Went to the live tab and clicked recovery. It keeps having technical difficulties doing the update. Hmmmmm.

Restore your XBOX to retail state before attempting the upgrade.
