I think the fonts are the same on all dash versions. I never replaced any fonts and never got an error.

ok the 5960 fonts in slayers are exactly the same size (to the byte) as the ones in my 4920 f0nts folder. does this mean that they are the same file and do not need to be updated? i prefer the sound of krayzies idea because it doesnt mean that turning off the xbox mid-procedure will kill it (hotswapping or putting in pc is not an option for me unfortunately).

so if i put the xboxdash.xbe (as msdash, pre-hexed with your font patcher), xboxdashdata, and xodash on C drive, reinstall UDE and it doesn't work then it must be because the slayers 5960 is not new enough?

i know, but perhaps reinstalling the UDE with the new dash would help things. don't ask me how, i'm still a n00b to all of you, but it's worth a try.

Most likely its a dashversion problem. Unless the updater check something else for determining whether it was previously run or not...
If there is a more recent 5960 dash than the one on Slayers this should be available on Live as well (does require an account to upgrade).

Anyway, a quick list of some font files on my PC :
CODE
From an old backup (Dash 4034) :
XBox Book.xtf  : 17068868 bytes
Xbox.xtf       : 15613736 bytes

From Slayers 2.4 (Dash 4920) :
XBox Book.xtf  : 14440996 bytes
Xbox.xtf       : 19124720 bytes

Maybe the fonts are "static" now but they have been upgraded in the past. Whether these old fonts still work with later dashes I dont know...

OK i have done the krayzie method (that sounds funny when said out loud) and the UDE has been successfully installed with the 5960.01 dash. the star wars disc does not work yet and i personally think that the most likely reason would be that it uses a newer dash than 5960.01. i would like to find out for certain. if i copy the dashupdate.xbe to my pc can i look at it with a hex editor and find out what dash it checks for? is this possible at all?

this method of updating the dash is indeed effective and i shall use it in the future if a game requires an update and i don't have an exploitable game. i have a friend who is a Live user so i can probably acquire the .03 off him when he mods his xbox (or when I mod his xbox lol).

Let it be known to people in future that the two folders can be copied to update the dash. The xboxdash.xbe can be renamed and hexed if the user wishes to use the MS dash.

QUOTE (krayzie @ Sep 22 2004, 08:03 PM)
how old is that star wars disc? There are more versions of the 5960 dashboard. (notice the numbers behind the dash version numbers)

fyi - Just force reverted to D:4290, then booted the PAL Star Wars Battlefront game demo DVD (from the video box set) - it forces Dashboard update to D:5659.03.
