You'll need to update the dashboard to get some of the auto-installers to run... Krayzies for instance will verify you have the latest version dash before it proceeds with the standard install.
To do this, get something recent (released in the last year) with an Xboxlive option. Make sure your xbox is NOT connected to the internet (or any network ... just in case). Select the Xboxlive option within the game and the very first step it will go through is updating your dashboard... it will then go onto a network troubleshooter (because your box is not connected to the net) at this point you can shut down and restart... the upgraded dash will have 4 tabs instead of the 3 you currently should have.
Although technically you don't have to have the latest dashboard, it does make the auto-installer's life easier as with nDure 1.1 it uses sections of the latest dashboard to ensure Xbox Live compatability.
