Warning: Star Wars Trilogy Dvd Extras Disc
« Reply #180 on: September 26, 2004, 10:50:00 PM »

i've explained several times in the Hulk thread how i make my dvds so that they boot in an unmodded box.  if you just want to watch the SW extras, the easiest thing to do is install dvdx2 on your xbox and use it as a dvd player just to watch the extras.  the next easiest thing would be install dvdshrink on your PC and copy the bonus disc that way.  you'll end up with just a dvd movie disc. no xbox content will be included.

if you want to play the game demo and you're soft-modded, then you need to back up your C drive first.  load the demo and let it update you dash (destroy your mod).  when you're done playing the demo, load a game-save hack so you ftp inot your xbox and restore the c drive to soft-mod conditions.

I think it would be interesting to be able to find an exploit that uses the xboxdash's dvdplayer functionality, with a burned dvd movie... perhaps we could manage to put random program data into a vob... the only problem with that would be mastering the video... I think...

It would just be interesting to see something that could be recognized as a video, and have maybe, 5-10 seconds of actual video data, then have a vob cross-linked to some xbe's in the video_ts folder on a dvd... perhaps some sort of jump in the TOC... I'm just pulling stuff out of my ass now, but maybe some of it's actually useful...

That's my two cents... and BTW, I don't think I'm going to pursue much more in the 'xbox dvd reading on pc-dvdrom' stuff... I'm too tired... and I just started college, so I've got more important things to be doing than hacking.... OR DO I???

that is probably way beyond anyone in this forum.

that's a shame. to be able to read an xbox game in a pc would change backing up completely. imagine on-the-fly copying of xbox games.............

I use Nero 6's burning rom, it gives the option to burn DVD ROM (BOOT) as well as DVD ROM (UDF), Does RecordNow even give the option for changing the booktype to DVD-ROM? What i'm sayin is maybe it is not your firmware, just the software.
LITEON ldw411s

Hope this helps.

Gotta have version 6.3.1.15  or higher to be able to change booktype. 6.3.1.25 came out on 9/20

hmmm...Didn't read the whole thread, but I did just backup Fable by burning it as a DVD video  with nero. The backup is fully readable by Windows and it boots and plays properly on a MODDED xbox. Unmodded it says invalid media so I am thinking the Dash is catching the dvd-r signature. Donna backup the extras SVS from the Starwars set and try it out....
Incidentally I am using plain ole Ritec 4X DVD-R media.

congratulations!  you have discovered something that has been known for years!  jester.gif seriously, this is nothing new.

this is how i have always made backups because it is so convenient.  however, i do not normally play from dvd.  9 times out of 10, i copy the game to hdd first.  if you play from the game from this 'DVD video' (UDF formatted backup), you will eventually run into disk-seek-time problems (your games will lag or lock-up).

book-type setting is not required for DVD-R.  it will never work in an unmodded xbox, but should always work in a modded xbox (unless you use a brand of dvd-r your particular xbox dvd drive doesn't like)

I'm guessing this thread is coming to a halt... or at least that's what it seems...

Updating to an unpatched dashboard will do that...

Just use Xbox Media Center. It supports the remote control, and everything is just peachy....

I could be off here, but.....

Would'nt the easyest way of reading a disc that was writen in a reverse fashion would be, to make an image of the disc and then reverse the file.

if you are using a softmod then install UXE. it will never happen again.

if you're a modchipper, then get your bios to point to somewhere else apart from xboxdash.xbe.

errr no MS dashboards have ftp.

just burn a file manager to disc and use it to copy something back over.

you could use a bios that doesn't boot xboxdash.xbe as the dash.
