Question Regarding Live

A Live server is like any other server. Decrypt(Packets IN) : Process : Encrypt(Packets OUT)

Plain & simple.

Question Regarding Live
« Reply #107 on: December 13, 2004, 05:08:00 PM »

Well if the XDK is able to emulate a Live server, then we can use that to figure out what exactly it is "processing".

Anyways, right now it seems easier to send a fake BIOS hash than it is to make our own Live server, so lets start small.

Lets try and play backups on Live, then worry about making our own Live.

Lets try and play backups on Live, then worry about making our own Live.

This is a cat & mouse game, it was accomplished, then patched, then accomplished, then patched.

By bypassing a LIVE server, and creating our own, this no longer becomes in issue.

There was once a PACKET HUB, not on the LIVE server but in a very close setup.

It worked much like a standard network router, It accepted all the traffic, and posted REAL UPDATE PACKETS to the server, the server processed the packets and returned them.

Then the router recieved the packets, and broke them up to the correct machines.

It in turned allowed 100 connections per 1 Server account.

It lasted for about 2 years before the company finally caught wind, that this was happening.

Maybe something like this is in the works. wink.gif

Question Regarding Live

By bypassing the real Live! servers and creating your own Live! network, you close the door to Live! cheating (which becomes a possibility when allowing to play backups on Live!) and you also allow a totally new distribution network for which to distribute modded content for games. Imagine also that if we could have our own Live! server, then your own Downloadable Content would be available on that server. You could get any exploit loaded without anything other than this (magic) app that runs on a computer on the local network with the xbox and a connection with the xbox. The user would simply go to the xbox, connect to live download the new content (fake) for whatever game then load it up.

Before you flame me... I know there is encryption and signature hurdles, but why not start with a simple handshake between and xbox and a fake Live! server? Simply write an app that anticipates the kerberos connection and authenticates a Live! login attempt, returning the "ok your connected" signal back to the xbox. Does anyone think that we can do this?

Check out this thread for more info on the concept... XBLive Mod Servers

We are currently working towards developing an application that will allow a virgin xbox to connect to a non-M$ Live! network.

This does not mean that there will be cheating on Live!, this means that there will be an alternative network. Our first goal is to get a handshake between the Live! server (our Live! server) and the xbox title attempting to connect to the Live! service.

If you have got any skills and would like to lend a hand programming, testing or researching then please contact me. You can PM me here for more details.

Has anyone noticed that when you use the XDK launcher, it makes a connection to something called PartnerNet? I haven't sniffed the packets yet, but I will later. Maybe PartnerNet is the type of server XBL uses? (PartnetNet develops various server programs, I know that much)

Ok. I setup a local DNS server that pointed all *.xbox.com sites to itself. I captured all packets sent to it.
It's wierd. If the Xbox doesn't get a reply, it just hangs for like 10 mins then says Xbox Live! is down. You'd think it'd do that if there was no server connection at all.
