I Finally Got My Arse In Gear
« on: August 05, 2004, 02:43:00 AM »

As you all may or may not know my delvings into the world of UDE have been somewhat delayed  rolleyes.gif

In the past, as you may have seen I have been on the cuff of xbox-exploitation and developed packages around the "older" dashboard exploits.

However, when UDE started to rear its head I had so much "other" crap going on I never got round to using it, my packages still use the MA fonts and the Audio hack, and are therefore well out of date  jester.gif

My PMs went crazy for a while with cries of "when are you updating your package" and "how can I use UDE with your package"  etc  laugh.gif

My answer was just "when I get round to it" and luckely ltools came around and gave noobish users (or just plain lazy ones tongue.gif ) another option, kudos to ldots on that one  love.gif

One of my main problems was I had loaned MA and my memory card to my Dad (yes my dad softmods  beerchug.gif ) so I couldnt RISK messing up my system without them  blink.gif

Anyway, the point of this mail is simple. I have done it, I got MA back, I got the UDE fonts and I got a mates xbox smile.gif

Hes a proper noob so I set it up simply for him, UDE boots PBL that then boots tHc lite, so at least the dash will look familure  jester.gif  it was in a word easy and to be honest a lot easier than I thought!

beerchug.gif

So, now ive "done" his xbox, its time to do mine smile.gif which got me thinking, while im at it should I bother updating my package to a UDE varient?

I mean, ldots work does pretty much what mine used to, but there are some features such as Dash-Switching etc that mine used to have the people may want..

So, if anyone would like to see an update, post, I know from some of my PMs there is a small demand anyway  cool.gif  if not, il always be here to support the scene as usual tongue.gif

Now aren't you glad you did that finally? biggrin.gif

You could perhaps instead of updating your package with UDE fonts (because that would just make the Audio exploit pointless), work on creating a package that, via a gamesave can revert a box back to its stock bootup state, for easy live usage.

This is the only thing I feel is missing at the moment with UDE, an easy way (possibly via a gamesave as one option) of switching between UDE bootup and stock bootup.  Would make live usage a hell of a lot easier.

But just a suggestion.

Congrats mkjones. Dont know how you managed to stay away from UDE this long biggrin.gif

@ Australian Rat
ltools does let you revert the xbox to an Live safe state. Just go to the ltools menu and choose "UDE uninstall". Dont need a game save to do this. Just boot with the eject button to reach the ltools menu.

When you are done playing on live you run the game save to reach the ltools menu again and choose "UDE install". The re-install is aware of previous installations so if you custemized your dashboard or Bios loader/pathcer you can re-use these settings.

It too has limited Dashboard switching. Only between Evox and MXM though smile.gif
It's rather limited what you can fit on a 8 MB memcard.

Yes, of course I would remove all traces of the Audio hack from my package smile.gif  the gamesave hack/revert is a good idea to switch USE "off" for live dash useage, obviulsy this is the only way at the moment other than EEE smile.gif that is, however its been patched in the most recent dash update sad.gif

Its still an "idea" i suppose, and to be honest one of the things holding be back from ude was the fact that scripting an option to "re-virginize" your xbox would be a pain in the arse tongue.gif

Congrats mkjones.

Thanks man  beerchug.gif  you know how it is, things get in the way such as "Life" and you know, for a while I actually used my xbox to "Play Games"  ohmy.gif

Yeh, i remember me and you havin a PM chat about this smile.gif its the only way to do it at the moment i just think "uninstall" is a little bit of a strong word...

Yeah, should have signed up as TuX instead of ldots  laugh.gif

Postcounts mean nothing to me. Everybody can gain an impressive post count by posting indifferent messages (like this one biggrin.gif). Some of the main contributers to this scene post very infrequently. It's the quality that counts!

An estimate is that you will find 80% of my posts in the xboxhdm and memcard installer. Supporting these things is time-consuming.

ldots you do know that to change the dash you can just put whatever dashboard of your choice in e:\dashboard? you did know that didn't you? jester.gif

Of course. That was the hole idea of using a "generic" folder name for the default dash. But it's not automatic in the sense I believe mkjones was talking about. You have to upload the new dashboad manually.

Which is what?
How many dashboards could you squeeze into your package?

not many i expect.

hey ldots i got another idea cool.gif , maybe you could make a 'ude memcard installer/uninstaller - dashboard expansion package' where its an installer triggered by a gamesave exploit, (completely separate from the ude installer) that changes the default dash for your package. you could just cram it full with 8 meg worth of dashes then everyone would be happy.

Uploading an expansion package as a game save would require the user to remove ltools first - you cannot have to hacked game saves with SC f.ex.

I dont think I will offer this. If people want another dash and dont have ftp access they can burn the dash to a CD-RW/DVD and transfer it to E:\Dashboard using the included BoxPlorer.

I had 3 as well as the "MyDash" option, MXM, Evox and UX, actually UX was on twice tongue.gif as i used a modded version as the configmanager as well smile.gif

However I could fit Ava onto it now as the latest build is only around 2mb smile.gif before it was 5mb! thats why i missed it out...

im softmodding my box and my friends box soon and i want to put your pakage on because of the 3 dashes but i also want the benifits of UDE over the older fonts and audio.

so i would greatly apreciate it if you made a package with UDE
