Xbox/motherboard Version
« on: August 04, 2004, 07:20:00 AM »

Hey guys i got a question. ConfigMagic says (it talks to me) that my xbox is a 1.1/1.2 version. this is also the motherboard version correct? Anyway how do i find out its exact version, 1.1/1.2 is not very helpful really. Also i want to avoid opening it up for the time being.

BTW which is better 1.1/1.2?

For the purposes of a softmod I don't think there's a difference...

yeah i know that it don't make much of a difference when talking about soft-modding, but i heard somewhere (i think it was the hardware forums) that the really early mobos suffer from overheating??????? unsure.gif  anyway it's also something thats always bugged me.

do you know what the really fucked up thing is? My parents bought me my xbox last christmas and it was made in September of 2003, it's really weird how my xbox is such an early version.

My Xbox is a 1.0, made around Feb 2002 i think (don't have the sticker any more) and mine doesn't suffer from overheating problems. In fact i'd say it's better on that point because there is an extra fan on the GPU whereas most later versions only have a heatsink.

anyway back to the point, does anyone know a way of finding the mobo version without opening. like i said configmagic isn't specific enough and i did that thing where you go on the main xbox-scene site and get linked to the linux site then look it up in a table, but the table is not up-to-date enough to apply to my xbox.

Don't think there is a way to get an exact version number without opening the box, but you can probably estimate based on certain criteria. Kernel version, you might get better help from someone who knows more about which versions were in which boxes. Check if one of the original PBL's load, 1.3? If it doesn't you can be sure you don't have a Conexant video encoder so that rules out the earlier version, etc...

Anyway, you get the point of being able to narrow it down to a certain version.

when i say i'd like a specific version i mean either 1.1 or 1.2, doesn't have to be any more accurate than that.

Actually, x-linux did a bit of research into the serial numbers of the xbox to determine what version.  Though not 100% effective, it may work.
