It's A Pity Not Many People Know About Exploits
« on: July 23, 2004, 02:13:00 PM »

You would think that the easies way to mod an xbox would be well known to everyone. I only found out about software exploits like 2 months back. Before that I sooooo badly wanted to get my xbox modded, but i couldn't find anywhere in the U.K to buy a chip or anyone who could chip it for me. I didn't want to buy off the internet, or open my xbox and start soldering stuff to the motherbaord. I spent weeks and weeks searching the net trying to find ways to get software to run on my xbox, and i never found anything. Just people saying 'the only way to get copies working is to get your xbox chipped'. I had almost given up hope...... until i came across the linux page and read about something called the '007 exploit', i was intrigued by this and did a search on google for it. Then i came across a completely random forum with a tutorial on how to 'soft-mod' and xbox using 'Mordens 007 Audio exploit'. I thought, i may give this a try, so i got hold of all of the stuff, downloaded the hack and triggered it in 007. I just got a scrambled screen and thought to myself 'Oh crap, gonna have to dish out some cash on a modchip' and i asked on the forum i found it on. They gave me the best link i had ever received, the link to the xbox-scene forums, that link still sits in my favourites menu today. Anyway i asked on that and they told me that the audio exploit was out of date, that it was obsolete. They also told me that i should use something called the 'Ultimate-Dashboard-Exploit', i thought, this sounds rar cool and read up on it. I found the official thread for it, and it said that it was a font exploit, at this point i shit myself because i had heard of all the bad things about font exploits people had been saying, (the tutorial wasn't exactly very n00b friendly either). I had given up all hope and banked on never running backups or apps on my xbox. Then a few days later in the gamesave exploit forum, i think it was krayzie who gave me a link to the 'UDE memcard installer package' or something like that. This tutorial by ldots was much more friendly to beginners, and had an indepth guide on how to install it, uninstall it etc. I read about how the UDE isn't like the other font hacks and how it is the safest exploit to date. I didn't have much time before i had to give my memory card and 007 back to my friend who i borrowed it off (primarily for the audio exploit), and i thought 'what the hell' and within an hour or so, i downloaded it, installed it and had stuff running in no time. The installaton was very easy, and i was surprised the security measures it even took, such as automatically backing up the C drive, and the eeprom. This was the best thing that ever happened to my xbox. I put a backup my friend gave me in to test, and it worked!!!!!!!!! It was a great feeling knowing that i can do pretty much everything a modchip could do, wihout even opening it!!!! The next day i read up on emulators and XBMC and dashboards and such, and now i have a UDE soft-modded xbox running MXM tons of emulators and apps, mp3s and video files and even Linux for gods sake!!!!
Anyway the point of this story is, something i just came across after hours and hours of searching and saw in the blink of an eye led to something that changed my xbox forever, and i am soooo grateful for everything that all of you guys have done and i wish others were as lucky as i was. Someone would ask me at school, 'how did you get all that running on your xbox' and i would try to explain soft-modding as simpy and briefly as possible. And it's a real shame that not as many people as i would like know about the possiblities of software hacks. I aim to make a website in the near future explaining things as simply as possible for people who don't understand anything about exploits. And i hope that more and more people discover the exploit world.

total_ass: it's always good to show people your exploited xbox tongue.gif they think it's crazy to load N64 games on an xbox from loading a gamesave in something like 007... I love the feeling you get when someone thanks you after you put an exploit on their box for free... it's all good...

I think everyone here should be so grateful to people like rmenhal, ldots, PedrosPad and many many others that have helped to create the exploits as they are today... without people like this we would be nowhere.

Imagine what MS are thinking right now after each time they think they've fixed the dash and then bam, another exploit is found  laugh.gif

I agree with you completely, YoshiKool.  My friends are in awe every time I load up Goldeneye for another classic round biggrin.gif

Here's my thanks to everyone involved here, rmenhal, PedrosPad, ldots, and even to Mad_Gouki (tried his mod MANY years ago, failed, but it was a learning experience) Morden (second mod, I messed that up too), and finally to mkjones (my mod RIGHT before UDE came out, worked great albiet the clock loops since I always forgot to switch exploits).  Huge thanks to you all.

It says a lot about M$ if normal ordinary people can find holes in their software.

And even more when people make tutorials and packages so the less-technically minded people can do it in just a few steps biggrin.gif

that's true, its funny how MS spend millions making sure that their software is perfect and then you read a tutorial named 'how to hack your xbox in three easy steps' lol.

Indeed.  We should dedicate a date for all of these X-Vets.  I reccomend August 12th.  Just a nice ring to it.  I'll leave the specifics up to someone else, although I reccomend a pride parade of some sort to give it a good start.   laugh.gif

Why not have the day UDE was invented?

edit: May 22 is the first post in the UDE thread...
edit2: May 22 2004, 06:16 PM - the fonts were released in the EEE thread.
