Edit: (RiceCake uses the hard drive locking utilities to lock his second hard drive in his PC, and creates a simple boot disk to access the drive. He needs security so noone will see his...uhh...schoolwork...yeah...)

Technically yes, but there is no point in pushing your luck.

Apparently Ghengis is having problems but since his drive has the Maximum security level set I dont see how that could have been locked with the linux tools. He cannot unlock with the Master password since the Maximum sec. level requires the User password!

Hey Ldots - you ever come across any utilities related to the HPA - Host Protected Area?

Locked my PC's second hard drive but now I'm wondering if the HPA is as good as it seems.

Clarification: My old HD is locked with the original, correct PW.  It may or may not be at Maximum, but since I have no intention of ever changing its lock state (it's my "virgin" drive for emergencies -- what do I need 8 more gig for when I have like 250+ already?) it doesn't matter to me.

My new HD is currently unlocked, and is definitely using High security -- I've only ever touched it with your linux lock tools.  The problem I've been having -- and that I hope to correct as soon as I can dig up a copy of ConfigMagic to re-try EEPROM dumping -- is that I can't lock my new HD with the right key if the eeprom.bin I'm using is wrong to start with.  Let's see how that works out first.

I may be wrong, but doesn't Ldots installer backup the eeprom, if it does can i use that and is it likely to be a good dump?

i don't need to use the gamesave, i got ftp access now. So is your backup a good one to use? Has it been tested? (Not to sound ungrateful)

No, almost certainly my eeprom.bin is not coming out right.  I'm trying to get it again with ConfigMagic, but it's giving me an error 21 when I try to run it.  I copied the contents of the RAR to e:\configmagic (so I have an e:\configmagic\data, etc.) and added this line to evox.ini:

   Item "Config Magic","E:\ConfigMagic\DEFAULT.XBE"

just after Trainers.  I basically copy-paste-changed the line for the Raincoat flasher, which I have commented out anyway.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong.  First, I tried using CM straight out of the tin, then I tried changing the ini to point to e:\eepromback\eeprom.bin/cfg and put files in there so it could find them.  I'm pretty sure it's not getting far enough for that to matter, but hey, just in case, right?  Anyway, I'm still working on why that happens.  Any hints, *please* drop me a line.  PMs very much welcome at this point.

Dont think so. Ghengis' problems could be a bad eeprom.bin, a PC Bios problem, a HDD that doesn't work will with locking. I tested the linux locking/unlocking on Western Digital and Seagate HDD's and had no problems.

If you dont run PBL or nkpatcher you need to sign ConfigMagic to run with your exploit. Are you using a gamesave hack?
Get xbedump and sign ConfigMagic's default.xbe with the key appropriate for your exploit. If it's a game save hack then sign it with -habibi

EvoX sometimes screws up when it backs up the EEPROM image.
